Abstract

A greeting card which is arranged to spring from a position in which two substantially planar portions of the card are held adjacent to each other by an envelope containing the card, into a position in which one of these portions protrudes from the other and the latter is folded in such a way as to enable it to stand upright on a flat surface, when the card is removed from the envelope.

Description

SPECIFICATION Greeting card This invention relates to a novel form of greeting card.
The greeting card embodying the invention comprises a foldable cardboard blank having a first and second substantially planar portion, said portions being arranged for relative sliding movement, and means being provided for resiliently urging said portions into a first relative position in which said second portion protrudes from said first portion and said first portion is folded in such a way as to enable it to stand upright on a flat surface, from a second relative position in which said second portion is substantially concealed by said first portion and both said portions are substantially flat, the arrangement being such that the card springs from its said second position into its said first position upon its withdrawal from an envelope.
An elastic (e.g. rubber) band is preferably hooked to appropriate regions of said portions for the purpose of resiliently urging them into said first relative position as aforesaid, suitable marginal recesses preferably being provided in the said regions for accommodating such a band.
In order to achieve the springing action as aforesaid, the card is preferably so designed that it is constrained into its said second position by lateral reaction with the front and back of the envelope.
1. A greeting card comprising a foldable cardboard blank having a first and second substantially planar portion, said portions being arranged for relative sliding movement, and means being provided for resiliently urging said portions into a first relative position in which said second portion protrudes from said first portion and said first portion is folded in such a way as to enable it to stand upright on a flat surface, from a second relative position in which said second portion is substantially concealed by said first portion and both said portions are substantially flat, the arrangement being such that the card springs from its said second position into its said first position upon its withdrawal from an envelope.
2. A card according to Claim 1, wherein an elastic band is hooked to appropriate regions of said portions for the purpose of resiliently urging them into said first relative position.
3. A card according to Claim 2, wherein marginal recesses are provided in the said regions for accommodating said band.
4. A card according to any one of the preceding claims, said card being arranged to be constrained into its said second position by lateral reaction with the front and back of a said envelope.
5. A greeting card constructed, arranged and adapted to operate substantially as hereinbefore described.
6. The combination of a greeting card according to any one of the preceding claims and an envelope in which it is retained in said second position by the envelope.
