Abstract
An electric cooking plate, for example a glass-ceramic hob, comprises a heater winding (1) which largely overlies a cooking zone. A temperature monitor (3) is disposed in this zone. In order to intensify the parboiling process, it is usual to operate with higher heating power, but this increased power is transferred to the cooking vessel only in the case of flat-bottomed vessels. In the case of a non-planar vessel bottom, the temperature monitor (3) may switch off the heating element before full transfer of its heat to the vessel and thereby interrupt the parboiling process. To avoid this, an additional heater winding (2), which provides a good heat transfer even in the case of a non-planar vessel bottom, is provided at the periphery of the cooking zone. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Electric heating means in a cooking plate
The present invention relates to a cooking plate and
has particular reference to electric heating means in such a plate.
In electric cooking plates, for example in the case of radiation heaters for glass ceramic hobs, there is usually provided a heater winding which largely overlies the cooking zone. Atemperature monitor is disposed in the cooking zone. In order to intensify the parboiling process, it is usual to operate with higher heating power. However, this increased heating power is transferred to the cooking vessel only in the case of planarvessel bottoms. In the case of a non-planar bottom, a temperature monitor interrupts the parboiling process. Thus, an increase in power consumption ofthesingle heaterwinding overlying the cooking zone from, for example, 1500 watts to 1800 watts, does not produce an intensification of the parboiling process, as the temperature monitor, extending for example transversely across the heater winding, by reason of this increased total power and ofthe poor heat transfer to the bowed pot bottom, rapidly switches offthe entire heating power and thereby interrupts the parboiling process. There is accordingly a need for improvement of cooking plates so that a parboiling process with increased heating power is possible substantially free of problems even in the case of non-planar pot bottoms.
According to the present invention there is provided a cooking plate defining a cooking zone and provided with a first eelectric heating element in the cooking zone and with at least one second electric heating element which at least atthe periphery ofthe cooking zone substantially encloses thefirst heating element.
In a preferred embodiment, the cooking plate, preferably a glass-ceramic cooker hob, is provided with a first heater winding overlying the cooking zone and at least one second heater winding which at least atthe periphery of the cooking place largely encloses thefirst heater winding, the second winding preferably being switchable on separatelyfrom the first winding.
Preferably, the second heating element comprises a single winding strand which extends at the edge of the cooking zone, thus at the place disposed immediately underneath a pot edge, where good contact of the pot with the cooking plate takes place.
The heating power ofthe first heating element is not increased in that case. Due to the good heatflowfrom the second heating element to the pot, no build-up of heat, which would lead to an undesired premature triggering of a temperature monitor, takes place in the peripheral region.
For preferance, the power consumption ofthe second heating element is substantially smallerthan the power consumption ofthe first element, preferably in the ratio of 1:5. Afavourable parboiling effect has resulted with a power rating of 1500 watts for the first heating element and of 300 wattsforthe second heating element in the case of a cooking zone diameter of 200 millimetres.
An embodiment of the present invention will now
be more particularly described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, which
is a schematic plan view of electric heating means in
cooking plate embodying the invention.
Referring now to the drawing, there is shown a
radiation heater for a glass-ceramic cooker hob, which is arranged at a spacing underneath a cooking zone of a glass-ceramic plate (notshown). Atempera turemonitor3, intheform ofatemperature- dependent switch with a temperature sensor4 extending over the cooking zone, is disposed between the heater and the glass-ceramic plate and has the task of preventing impermissibly high heating of the plate. For this purpose, the temperature monitor3 is connected into the operating current circuit of the heater and switches offthe heater at a predetermined maximum temperature.
The radiation heater itself comprises two heater windingsl and 2, wherein the winding 1 largely overlies the cooking zone with the exception ofthe outermost peripheral region and is constructed for this purpose in the form oftwo semi-circular heating regions 5 and 6 with mutually concentric winding layers Sand 6'. This contiguous winding 1 is surrounded by an additional circular single-strand heater winding 2, which is disposed directly at the peripheral region ofthe cooking zone, i.e. so as to be directly underneath the rim of a cooking pot placed on the cooking plate. The electrical connecting points of thewindings 1 and 2 are designated by 7.1,7.2 and 7.3.In the case of the illustrated embodiment, it is presupposed that the cooking plate has a diameter of 200 millimetres. Appropriately, a power consumption
L1 of 1500 watts is selected forthe winding 1 and a power consumption L2 of 300 watts for the heater winding 2. Together, the two windings 1 and 2 result in a heating power of 1800 watts. In the case ofthe illustrated embodiment, this heating power can be switched on through actuation of a single actuating device in the highest power seting (for example stage 9) ofthe actuating device and serves for rapid parboiling of cooking stock in the pot. After the parboiling process, the small heating power L1 can be switched off automatically. The outer circular winding 2 is disposed directly underneath the outer rim of the pot in such a mannerthan the heat emanating from this winding is efficiently transferred to the pot.
It is, of course, possible to structure the cooking zone, inclusive ofthe additional winding 2, in a shape other than circular.
