Abstract
To protect an automobile from unauthorised removal, a concealed switch or switches is located in the interior which allows one circuit to be "broken" when the owner vacates the automobile. The "broken" circuit cuts off the supply from the power source to the ignition coil and so renders the automobile immobile, at the same time permitting the starter to turn the engine. The resultant rotation of the fan belt on an automatic "cut-in unit" completes the "made" circuit and envokes the alarm system, which can be wired either for continuous or intermittent sounding of the horn or flashing of head or side lights and will not cease until the concealed switch is de-energised or the fused timer is envoked. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Anti-theft device for automobiles
General Description.
The invention can generally be described as an anti-theft device for application in the automobile industry, and is designed for fitting in cars which are already in service, rather than fitted at the production factory. The two circuits which comprise the system are-The Ignition Immobiliser and the Alarm System Circuits. They can either be wired separately or combined in the switching arrangement. Fig. 1.
Component Details.
(a) Components for Wiring of Ignition Immobiliser Circuit.
1. No 10 amp switch.
15 ft black 14/0.25 wire.
2. No Push-on connectors.
2. No Insulators for above.

(c) Description and specification of Components.
10 amp switch.-A simple ON-OFF switch with a capacity of 10 amp x 1 2v. with two push-on male connectors on the reverse side, in black plastic with metal electrical circuitry.
Cables/Wires.-plastic coated wire twist cable in two colour codings,
14/.025 for ignition immobiliser-black.
28/.030 for alarm system -brown.
Push-on Connectors and lnsulators.-for connection of wires by clips or soldering.
Bullet Connectors--for connection of two lengths of cable.
Black rubber grommet flexible black ruber with hole suitable for 1 or 2 small wires.
Fuse Cartridge Holder-for the changing of fuse cartridges.
Cut-in Unitoomprising two plates in galvanised steel, 1 .mm. thick to design shown in Fig. 3;
1. No galvanised nut and bolt; 2. No small and 2. No large washers in brass or galvanised steel.
Operation of the Invention.
---of the Ignition Immobiliser.
This circuit has been designed to allow a quick and effective means of preventing the car being started, by the operation of a concealed switch.
The principle of operation is that by introducing a switch into the existing circuit which feeds electrical energy to the coil from the ignition, and by causing a brake in the circuit by means of the switch, the ignition of the engine is rendered inoperative when the circuit is broken. This action does not however affect the turning effect of the engine when the starter circuit is envoked, a condition which is vital to the operation of the alarm circuit.
-f the Alarm Circuit.
This is put into effect by the operation of a concealed switch inside the passenger compartment and a cut-in switch inside the engine compartment. By simply making the two switches the alarm system is put into operation. Sounding of the alarm is not put into operation until any unauthorised person turns the ignition key and starts the engine. If the immobiliser circuit is also turned on, the car will not start, but the alarm system will be automatically switched on, and will not turn off until either the fused timer is envoked or until the owner turns off the concealed switch under the dashboard.
The principle of operation is that by taking on independant power supply from the fuse box (that which is not dependant on the operation of the ignition switch) and by wiring via the concealed switch, flasher unit, fused holder and cut-in unit, the circuit is energised when the concealed switch is ON and the Automatic cut-in unit is "flicked" on by the action of the fanbelt. The alarm continues for as long as the fuse allows.
The purpose of these units in the circuit is:
Concealed Switch--for manual energising of circuit by car owner when vacating the car.
Flasher Unit-for intermittant sounding of horn or flashing of lights.
Fused Holder-for safeguarding of circuit and for timing alarm operation.
Cut-in Unit-This is an automatic cut-in switch mechanism which completes the circuit when the fan-belt is rotated.
Claims (5)
1. A method of preventing an automobile from unauthorised removal by an alarm and immobiliser circuit, using separate concealed switches.
2. A method of preventing an automobile from unauthorised removal by an alarm and immobiliser circuit, using a combined concealed switch.
3. A method of preventing an automobile from unauthorised removal by an immobiliser circuit.
4. A method of preventing an automobile from unauthorised removal by an alarm circuit.
5. A method of allowing a circuit to be energised by providing a cut-in unit at the
Dynamo/Alternator/fan belt location, which does not operate until the fan belt is rotated and will not de-energise until manually reversed.
