Abstract

A bidet accessory for a water closet comprises a spray nozzle assembly (10) mounted centrally on the top of the rear of the toilet pan (P) of the water closet. In a preferred arrangement two opposite and outwardly extending bars (18, 20) are connected to the spray nozzle assembly and serve to replace the conventional hinge pin for the toilet seat (S) and lid (L), one of the bars (20) being in the form of a tube adapted to supply water to the spray nozzle assembly. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Accessory for a water closet This invention concerns an accessory for a water closet.
Although bidets are becoming increasingly popular, their installation is relatively uncommon, on account of cost and lack of space.
it is an object of the present invention to provide an accessory for a water closet which overcomes, at least to some extent, the problems aforesaid, by enabling the water closet to be used in a hygenic manner for washing the genital and anal areas of the body.
According to the present invention there is provided an accessory for a water closet comprising a spray nozzle assembly adapted to be connected to a water supply therefor and means for mounting the spray nozzle assembly centrally at the rear of the toilet pan.
In a preferred arrangement the water supply to the nozzle is provided by a pipe member which acts as a hinge pin for a toilet lid and seat, thus replacing part at least of the conventional hinge pin.
The invention will be further apparent from the following description, with reference to the several figures of the accompanying drawings, which show, by way of example only one form of accessory for a water closet embodying the invention.
Of the drawings: Figure 1 shows a front elevation of the accessory fitted to a water closet; Figure 2 shows a fragmentary cross-section of the accessory on the line Il-Il of Figure 1; and Figure 3 shows a fragmentary cross-section on the line Ill-Ill of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawings, it will be seen that the accessory essentially comprises a spray nozzle assembly generally indicated at 10, located centrally on top of the toilet pan P at the rear thereof.
Mounted to the top of the pan P on either side of the spray nozzle assembly 10 are conventional brackets 11 and 12, which normally locate a hinge pin, upon which the toilet seat S and lid L are hingedly mounted.
The nozzle assembly 10 comprises a block 13 having a chamber 14 therein whose open end is covered by a plate 1 5 secured to the block 1 3 by a screw 16 and having a plurality of orifices 17 therein. A solid bar 18 extends outwardly from the block 1 3 on one side thereof and is secured to the block by means of a lock nut 1 9. A bar 20 extends outwardly from the block 13 coaxially with the bar 1 8 on the opposite side thereof. The bar 20 is drilled axially so that it forms a pipe which communicates with the interior of the chamber 14. The bar 20 is secured to the block 13 by means of a lock nut 21.
The bars 1 8 and 20 extend through the brackets 11 and 1 2 respectively and serve as hinge pins for the seat S and lid L replacing the conventional single hinge pin. The bar 20 is connected as indicated at 22 to a water supply pipe 23 fitted with a tap 24.
The water supply 23 to the pipe will desirably be taken from a source whose pressure may be set to a desired value and which can be heated to a desired temperature by means of an electric heater, for example.
The block 13 may be set so that the plate 1 5 is at a desired angle most convenient to the user.
In use water can be supplied to the chamber 14 by opening the tap 24 to produce a spray which can be used for washing the genital and anal areas in the same manner as by using a conventional bidet fitted with a douche.
It will be appreciated that it is not intended to limit the invention to the above example only, many variations, such as might readily occur to one skilled in the art, being possible, without departing from the scope thereof as defined by the appended claims.
