Abstract

Piles.-A reinforced concrete stake for foundations or for use as a pile or the like is formed with a screw head having a multiple thread of steep pitch and comparatively shallow depth tapering to a nose provided with cutting edges. An axial reinforcing bar 3 may extend through the head and into the body portion, the end 1 of the bar being shaped to form the cutting point for the screw head. The reinforcement is designed to offer the greatest resistance to torsion and comprises a number of bars 4 placed near the periphery, a spiral binding wire 5 secured to the bars and spaced radial stirrups 6. The crosssection is preferably octagonal, in which case eight bars would be used as shown in Fig. 7. For soft earth, the bar 3 would be dispensed with and the point of the screw head formed of cement. The screw head and body part may be formed in one operation or separately.
