210,872. Maggio, V. Nov. 8, 1922. Moulding pipes and tubes.-Relates to apparatus for moulding concrete pipes, columns and other cylindrical objects, of the type comprising a mould and a presser fitted with helical parts, the mould and presser being relatively rotatable, and comprises a presser of cylindrical form with segments removed to provide longitudinal limbs separated by apertures which serve for the introduction of the material into the mould. Fig. 8 shows a machine for socketted pipes, comprising a fixed mould 8 and a presser having longitudinal limbs 1 terminating in helical pressing feet 2. A hollow core 9 extends into the mould within the presser and houses a driving- shaft 6 adapted to be connected to the presser by a pin 7 &c. The mould is formed of separable parts mounted upon a bottom 12 supported upon a base plate 11 furnished with cleats 13. In operation, the core 9 is introduced into the mould and the presser lowered therein; a hopper is fitted to the upper part of the mould and the material introduced therein; after which the shaft 6 is revolved and turns and rises with the presser, the material passing through the apertures between the limbs 1. When the presser rises clear of the mould, the shaft 6 is stopped, the pin 7 is disconnected and the presser is hoisted bv a hook 5. The shaft 6 is then withdrawn and the core 9 actuated to smooth the interior of the pipe &c. after which it is withdrawn, the mould is opened and the article removed from the plate 12. The feet 2 may be furnished with renewable wear pieces, 20, Fig. 13, and with a vertically-adjustable scoring- device 18. Fig. 14 shows a presser furnished with a duct 21 through which a reinforcing-wire 19 is fed. Shutters 3, Fig. 6, may close the presser apertures on the interior to protect the core 9 from the material and similar exterior shutters 3<a> may be provided to protect the mould surface.
