Description

SPECIFICATION Carding element The invention relates to a fixed carding element, the tips of the clothing of which are to be arranged at a position spaced from and opposed to the tips of the clothing of a roller of, for example, a carding machine and in the case of which a support member is provided for the clothing.
In the case of a known fixed carding element, an immovable support member is provided which is adapted to the circumference of a roller having clothing. Opposed teeth are provided on the support member which generally consists of cast iron or steel. In order to adapt the face to which the opposed teeth are secured to the radius of curvature of the roller, the face must be worked, for example by milling. This is costly with regard to production engineering. A further disadvantage is that exchanging the clothing is expensive with regard to time and is, generally, not possible in the spinning mill itself.
According to the invention there is provided a fixed carding element, the tips of the clothing of which are arranged at a distance opposed to the tips of the clothing of a roller of, for example, a carding machine, and in the case of which a support member is provided for the clothing, characterised in that a plastics elements is secured by its surface to the support member, the opposed surface of which plastics element is adapted to the radius of curvature of the roller and in the case of which the clothing is secured on this surface.
A fixed carding element embodying the invention is simple to manufacture and makes possible a rapid exchange of the clothing.
The plastics support and the clothing may form one complete structural member which can be secured to the support member. One advantage is that the plastics support can be formed accurately to dimensions in a simple manner, the curved surface adapted to the radius of curvature of the roller being produced by a corresponding shape in a press mould. Advantageously, the surface opposed to the curved surface is flat. Furthermore, this structural member can be manufactured independently of the support member and outside the spinning mill. With regard to the support member, it is advantageous that a simple, appropriately flat, working by milling or planing, is sufficient, which is economic with regard to production engineering. The plastics element is secured by its own flat surface to this flat surface.
This operation can be carried out, for example in the case of wear or damage of the clothing, in the spinning mill itself, it being possible to use the same support member again. As a result, the structural member on the one hand, which consists of the plastics support and the clothing, and the support member on the other hand are simple to manufacture with regard to production engineering. The structural member consisting of plastics support and clothing can be produced as a replacement and exchange structural member outside the spinning mill and can be secured in simple manner to the support member remaining in the spinning mill so that, in this manner, the clothing can be exchanged simply and, especially, in a short time.
From DE-OS 1 685 600 a card flat bar is known in the case of which a plastics layer is arranged between the clothing and the bearing surface of the card flat. This card flat bar is part of a revolving card flat. By means of the plastics layer, unevenness on the clothing or card flat bearing surface are to be compensated.
The plastics element may be compression moulded, which facilitates production. The desired length can be separated, for example by sawing, from a relatively long length. Advantageously, the plastics element is secured by its flat surface to the flat surface of the support member by a releasable connection, for example a screw connection. According to a further preferred embodiment, the plastics element is injection moulded directly onto the curved clothing.
Preferably, the clothing is bonded to the plastics element. It may also be advantageous that the clothing is connected to the plastics element by a clamp, clasp, clip or the like. It is important that the clothing is held by the clamp or the like.
Advantageously, when the plastics element is connected to the support member, the clamp, clasps, clips or the like holding the clothing are simultaneously clamped into a recess between the plastics element and the support member.
The plastics element is to be the actual clothing support, an appropriate plastics material being chosen. The plastics material should be such that it can be moulded by compression-moulding, extrusion or the like. Furthermore, a good dimensional stability is required in order to ensure a constant distance between the tips of the clothing of the carding element and the roller. The clothing is, for example, clipped to the plastics support and in that manner forms one structural unit. This complete part consisting of clothing support and, preferably of an all-steel clothing and clips, is, for example, screwed to the support member. The clothing, consisting for example of a fitting which may comprise saw-tooth wire filleting, together with the plastics element forms an exchangeable, readily maintainable structural unit.
The carding element according to the invention can be associated with the clothed roller of a cleaner or another textile machine, for example the opening roller of the card sliver loosening device for an open-end rotor spinning machine.
By way of example an illustrative embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which: Fig. 1 shows, schematically, in section, a side view of a carding machine having fixed carding elements at three places, and Fig. 2 shows a perspective representation of a fixed carding element embodying the invention.
Figure 1 shows a carding machine in the case of which, in known manner, a feed roller 1, a licker-in 2, a cylinder 3, a revolving card flat 4, a doffer 5, and a stripper roller 6 are provided. There are arranged underneath the licker-in 2 two fixed carding elements 7, the fittings or clothings 7a of which are opposed at a distance to the fitting or clothing 2a of the licker-in 2. There are arranged between the licker-in 2 and the rear revolving roller 4b for the card flat two fixed carding elements 8, the fittings or clothings 8a of which are opposed to the fitting or clothing 3a of the cylinder 3. There is arranged between the doffer 5 and the front revolving roller 4a for the card flat a further fixed carding element 9, the fitting or clothing 9a of which is opposed to the fitting or clothing 3a of the cylinder 3. The fixed carding element 9 has a dirt-collection edge 9b.The fittings or clothing 7a, 8a and 9a are adapted to the radius of curvature of the licker-in 2 or the cylinder 3, respectively.
According to Figure 2, a support element 10 is provided which has a recess 1 Ob at its one flat surface 1 Oa. A shoulder 1 b, accurately dimensioned, projects into this recess lOb, which shoulder is at the flat face 1 a of a plastics element 1 The flat face 1 a has, in its side regions, over its length, two recesses 1 C, 11 d.
The surface lie opposed to the surface 1 a is curved in a concave manner and has a radius of curvature matched to the corresponding roller associated therewith (not shown). On the surface ii e, there are arranged next to one another curved saw-tooth portions 1 2 of an all-steel fitting. The ends of the saw-tooth portions 1 2 are secured by the projecting ends 14a, 1 spa of two clips 14, 1 5. The other ends 1 4b, 1 sub of the clips 14, 1 5 project into the recesses lid and 11 c, respectively.
The plastics element 11 is connected to the support member 10 by screws 13 of which only one is shown. For this purpose, a bore-hole is provided in the support member 10 through which the screw 13 engages a thread which is cut into the shoulder 1 b of the plastics element 11. If the screw 1 3 is tightened, the ends 1 4b, 1 sub of the clips 14, 1 5 are simultaneously clamped in the recesses 1 1 c, lid.
Other techniques may be employed for securing the fitting 12 to the element 11. For example the element ii may be injection moulded directly onto the curved fitting 12 or the fitting may be bonded with adhesive to the element.
As already stated an advantage of making the element ii of plastics material is that it can be made very simply. The element may be made by moulding or by extruding. While the use of plastics material particularly facilitates production of the element ii, that element may be made from other materials that can be easily shaped by pressing, moulding. extruding or other processes. For example, the material may be aluminium and can be pressed or extruded to form the element 11.
