Abstract
210,203. Dunning, W., and Collinge, R. A. Nov. 11, 1922. Jigger machines.-The reversal of the direction of travel of the cloth in dyeing and like machines of the jigger type is automatically effected by mechanism comprising a series of levers arranged and operated as described below. The beaming rollers 2, 3 are driven from the shaft 4 by means of clutches 5, 6 each carrying a bevel wheel 7 engaging a bevel wheel 8 on the corresponding roller shaft. The clutches 5, 6 have a common sliding box 9, so that when one is engaged the other is disengaged. The box 9 is operated by means of a quadrant 10 pivoted at 11 and co-operating with a rack 13 engaging a, worm 14 on a second shaft 15. Pulleys 16, 16 on the shaft 15 are driven in opposite directions from the shaft 4 and are engaged by catchboxes 17, 17A respectively so arranged that when one is engaged the other is disengaged. The catchboxes 17, 17 are operated by bell cranks 18, 18 carried on shafts 21, 21 respectively to which swing arms 20, 20 carrying padding rollers 19, 19A are attached. The padding rollers abut against guide rollers 22, 22A forming @nips through which the cloth passes. Weighted levers 24, 24 pivoted at 25, 25 respectively and notched at the ends, as shown, co-operate with the bell cranks 18, 18 and prevent disengagement of whichever catchbox is engaged. The levers 24, 24 carry pins 26, 26 which work in slots 27, 27 carried by rods 28, 28 connected to the quadrant 10 by bell cranks 29, 29 and rods 30, 30. The quadrant is provided with a plunger 32 which is free to drop into a hole 34 in the rack 13, and is provided with a projection 86 which rests on either of the two levers connected by means of levers 37, 37 respectively and rods 38, 38 to the bell cranks 18. 18. A bracket 39 combined with the quadrant 10 carries brake mechanism for acting on the outer casings nf the clutches. Tn operation, the cloth passing from one of the rollers 2. 3 to the other is provided at a certain distance from each end with a flat bar or other enlargement. This enlargement passing through the nip formed, for example, by the rollers 22, 19 forces out the roller 19 and operates the bell crank 18, putting the catchbox 17 into gear and causing the shaft 15 to rotate. At the same time the plunger 32 is lifted by the operation of the tension rod 38 and small bell crank, and releases the quadrant from the rack. The quadrant then moves and stops the machine, the plunger at the same time moving free from its operating lever. Meanwhile the worm drives the rack, and eventually the hole 34 comes beneath the plunger 32, when the plunger falls and the worm moves both the rack and the quadrant until the other main clutch is engaged. The movement of the quadrant causes the rod 30 to move so as gradually to lift the lever 24 and so disengage the catchbox 17 when the main clutch is fully engaged, thereby stopping the rotation of the shaft 15. The direction of the material through the machine is thus reversed, the other beaming roller being driven until the corresponding enlargement on the cloth again operates the reversing mechanism.
