Abstract
An ice bucket or wine cooler 1 is formed from high impact polystyrene by moulding and has the general appearance of a bowler hat standing on its crown 5. The crown 5 is flattened so as to provide an annular flattened portion 6 on which the bucket or cooler 1 may stand firmly on a flat surface. A cover may optionally be fitted. The portion 6 surrounds a recessed portion 7 and the bowl 2 of the bucket etc has a flange 3 terminating in a thickened peripheral portion 4. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Ice buckets and wine coolers
This invention relates to ice buckets and wine coolers.
It is an object of the invention to provide an ice bucket or wine cooler which presents a particularly attractive and novel appearance.
According to the invention an ice bucket or wine cooler has substantially the shape of a bowler hat but with the crown adapted to enable it to stand firmly upside down on a flat surface.
The dimensions are preferably such as to enable two or more standard wine bottles to be stood within the ice bucket or wine cooler when it is stood on its crown.
In order that the invention may be more fully understood, a wine cooler in accordance with the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure lisa section through the cooler taken along the line I-I in Figure 3,
Figure 2 is a section through the cooler taken along the line ll-ll in Figure 3, and
Figure 3 is a view of the cooler from above.
The illustrated cooler 1 is formed from high impact polystyrene by moulding, although it would also be possible to form the cooler 1 from metal, such as aluminium, by deep drawing.
The cooler 1, which has the general appearance of a bowler hat standing on its crown, comprises a bowl 2 and a brim 3. A peripheral portion 4 of the brim 3 is thickened so as to further simulate the appearance of a bowler hat. Furthermore the crown 5 is flattened so as to provide an annular flattened portion 6 which surrounds a recessed portion 7 of the crown 5.
In use the cooler 1 is stood on its flattened portion 6 on a flat surface, and the bowl 2 is filled with pieces of ice. Up to two standard wine bottles may then be stood within the bowl 2 surrounded by the ice, so as to maintain the wine within the bottles at a cool temperature in accordance with standard practice.
The bowl 2 of the cooler 1 is somewhat deeper in relation to its other dimensions than a standard bowler hat, so as to ensure that the cooler remains upright when two bottles are stood in ice in the bowl 2 with their necks resting against the edge of the bowl 2. However, the slight upturning of the brim 3 tends to retain the overall appearance of a standard bowler hat.
The brim 33 may have a motto or crest (not shown) applied to that surface which constitutes the upper surface 8 of the cooler 1 when it is stood on its crown 5.
The illustrated cooler may also be used as an ice bucket for holding pieces of ice to be added to drinks. In this case a cover (not shown) may be provided to fit over the top of the bowl 2.
1. An ice bucket or wine cooler having substantially the shape of a bowler hat but with a crown adapted to enable it to stand firmly upside down on a flat surface.
2. An ice bucket or wine cooler according to claim 1, having dimensions such as to enable two or more standard wine bottles to be stored within the ice bucket or wine cooler when it is stood on its crown.
3. An ice bucket or wine cooler according to claim 1 or 2, which is formed from plastics material by moulding.
4. An ice bucket or wine cooler according to claim 3, wherein the plastics material is high impact polystyrene.
5. An ice bucket or wine cooler according to claim 1 or 2, which is formed from metal by deep drawing.
6. An ice bucket or wine cooler according to claim 5, wherein the metal is aluminium.
7. An ice bucket or wine cooler according to any preceding claim, wherein the crown is flattened to enable it to stand firmly upside down on a flat surface.
8. An ice bucket or wine cooler according to claim 7, wherein the crown comprises an annular flattened portion which surrounds a recessed portion.
9. An ice bucket or wine cooler according to any preceding claim, which is provided with a cover.
10. An ice bucket or wine cooler substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
