Abstract
A self-drying composition for coating sand casting moulds and cores comprises the polyorganosiloxane resin with hydroxyl group s on the atom of silicon, the polyvinylbutyral, a solvent, a hardening catalyst of acidic type and a refractory filler at the following ratio of components in% by weight: the polyorganosiloxane resin 1.8-2.5, polyvinylbutyral 0.9-1.5, hardening catalyst 0.3-O.6, solvent 24.0-30.0 refractory filler the balance. A method of making the self-drying composition consists in mixing the initial dry components by crushing and grinding them during 30 to 180 minutes and adding the solvent to the obtained mixture while simultaneously mixing it during 20 to 40 minutes with subsequent addition of the catalyst during the process of mixing the composition.
