Abstract

The present invention relates to a device for controlling sinkers in circular knitting machines, particularly hosiery knitting machines and similar, which are provided with a density changing device operating on the basis of vertical displacement (together with the needle cylinder 1) of the sinker ring 7 for depositing and controlling the sinkers. The subject matter of the present invention consists in that mechanical lever transmissions 12 are provided in the feeds between the vertically movable sinker ring and the movably mounted sinker cams 10 for the purpose of changing simultaneously the position of the sinker cams upon displacement of the sinker ring. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Device for controlling sinkers in circular knitting machines The present invention relates to a device for controlling sinkers in circular knitting machines, particularly for hosiery knitting machines and similar, which are provided with a density changing device operating on the basis of vertical displacement of the sinker ring for depositing and controlling sinkers.
Hosiery knitting machines are known, in which the loops are formed by vertical motion of the needle mounted in a needle cylinder, and a movable sinker mounted in the sinker ring. It is known, that for the purpose of forming a loop, such sinker motion is required so as to appropriately stretch the loop and prevent the needle from penetrating the loop of the preceding course. It is necessary that the sinker appropriately stretch the loop also at that phase at which the needle starts its clearing motion, so as to get the neele loop below the needle latch. Otherwise, the latch end can penetrate the loop and a defect of the knitwork is caused, or possibly the clearing of the loop from the needle latch does not take place at all. In those machines, stationary cams are used for controlling sinkers, of which the disadvantage consists in their constant knocking-over degree.
In further known types of hosiery knitting machines, freely mounted, spring loaded cams are used. Even that embodiment is not optimum for achieving the required extensibility, because there exists influence of centrifugal forces of the sinkers, which becomes evident particularly in high speed machines.
Furthermore, a hosiery knitting machine is known, in which the change in density is achieved by a vertical change of the stitch cams, which are connected by a lever transmission to the sinker cams. This embodiment achieves the required effect in different extensibility, however, it is more sensitive against adjustment of density due to the possibility of there arising clearances between the transmission elements. Furthermore, this embodiment cannot be used in machines, in which density is controlled by displacement of the needle cylinder, or possibly the sinker ring.
The purpose of the present invention consists in mitigating the above-mentioned disadvantages for machines in which density is controlled by the displacement of the sinker ring, this being substantially performed in that the machine comprises in its feeds mechanical lever transmissions between the vertically moving sinker ring and the movably mounted sinker cams in the sinker ring, for the purpose of simultaneous change of the position of the sinker cams upon displacement of the sinker ring.
The device according to the present invention is shown in an embodiment in form of example in the accompanying drawing, in which an axial section through the needle cylinder and the sinker ring, together with the illustration of the lever transmission, is represented.
A known one cylinder multifeed hosiery knitting machine is provided with a needle cylinder 1, in the longitudinal tricks 2 of which are mounted needles 3 and further not represented sinkers. A cambox 4 is associated with the needle cylinder 1, in which stitch cams 5 and guard cams 6 are mounted for the separate feeds, as well as further known, not represented cams for controlling needles and sinkers. At the upper end of needle cylinder 1, a tricked ring 7 is stationarily mounted, in the radial tricks of which are displaceably arranged sinkers 8. On the tricked ring 7 is mounted a non-rotatable circular lid 9 for the arrangement of sinker cams. In each feed are arranged beside the known, not represented, stationary sinker cams also radially displaceable sinker cams 10.The tricked ring 7 and the circular lid 9 for the sinker ring 1 which is vertically displaceable together with the needle cylinder 1.
Associated wit the sinker ring 22 in each feed is an angle lever 12, which is mounted swingably on the machine frame 13 and made resilient relative thereto by a tension spring 1 4. On the horizontally arranged arm of angle lever 12, an adjusting screw 12 is arranged, which bears against the upper side of the sinker ring 11, or possibly the circular lid 9, and being pressed against it by the tension spring 14. The vertically arranged arm of angle lever 12 then passes through an opening in the radially displaceable sinker ring 10.
The arrangement as specified above operates as follows: Upon changing the density of the knitwork, the needle cylinder 1 , together with the sinker ring 11 are e.g. lifted upwards from the density device. By this displacement the knocked over loops are extended, due to the constant level of the clearing cams 5. This vertical motion is transmitted by action of sinker ring 11 to the adjusting screw 12', or possibly the appurtenant arm of angle lever 12, which is also lifted. The other arm of angle lever 1 2 then displaces the radially displaceable sinker cams 10 towards the centre of needle cylinder 1.
By the displacement of the radially displaceable sinker cams 10, the knocking over of sinkers 8 is increased and thus the cleared sinker loops extended. Accurate adjustment of the clearing is performed by adjusting screw 12'.
Upon reverse operation of the machine, i.e.
upon condensing the knitwork, the needle cylinder 1, or possibly the sinker ring 11 is moved downwards and the change of the radial position of the radially displaceable cams 10 is performed by tension spring 14, which acts upon angle lever 12, said cams 10 moving away from needle cylinder 1.
The device according to the present invention can be varied in its construction in various manners. So e.g. the sinker cams can be swingable and can be connected to the angle lever by means of a joint. Furthermore, the angle lever or a lever formed in another manner can bear against the bottom side of the sinker ring, while the spring acts upon the other end of the lever, and similar.
