Ventilators.-A louver ventilator, applicable to transoms, doorways, windows, panels, &c., and arranged to prevent vision through it, comprises a series of louvers, each consisting of an upright member 20 having extensions 21 on opposite edges, pivoted in a frame which is built up of plates of channel section, the flanges 16 of the side members 12, 13 terminating short of the ends of the members while the flanges 14, 15 of the top and bottom plates 10, 11 extend the full width of the frame. The frame members are secured together by the provision, on the ends of the sides 12, 13, of flanges 17 having holes through which the metal of the top and bottom plates is drawn and spread, as shown at 19, Fig. 8. In a modified form of frame, Fig. 9, the flanges 49 of the side members extend the full length and the ends are offset at 50 to engage within the flanges 51 of the top and bottom plates, the securing means comprising rivets 52 passing through flanges 51, offset portions 50 and a bush 53. In this case slots 54 are formed in the parts 50 to allow adjustability of the sides of the frame with respect to the top and bottom plates. The louvers 20 are provided on their upper and lower edges with ears 22, 23 which are pivoted in the respective frame members 10, 11, the ears 23 being, in addition, pivoted to an operating bar 27 adapted to slide on the bottom 11 of the frame and actuated by a spindle 29 having a crank 30 engaging a bent portion 32 of the bar 27. This bar is prevented from rising by a rod 34, Fig. 2, and the rear end of the spindle 29 is reduced at 37 to allow it to be moved slightly in the direction of its length by the slight front to rear motion of the bar 27. Fixed louvers 41, 42 are provided at tho sides of the device, the end 43 of the bar 27 engaging with the louver 42 to limit the extent to which the louvers 20 can be opened.
