Abstract

A file for vehicle tachograph charts comprises a plastics base sheet (1) having a central fold so that the two halves of the sheet (1a, 1b) lie back to back. To each of the outwardly facing surfaces of the two halves of the sheet (1) are seam welded strips (5, 6) to form open-mouthed document pockets, the strips extending parallel to each other so that the pockets are in rows. A suspension rod (2) extends along the central fold of the base sheet (1) so that the file can be suspended in a filing cabinet with the mouths of the pockets facing upwardly. The material of said strips is stretchable so that the volume of each pocket increases as more documents are placed in it. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements relating to document files This invention relates to document files and more particularly, but not exclusively, to files for storing vehicle tachograph records.
Vehicle tachograph records are in the form of thin discs each of which carries a vehicle's operating record for one day. The disc-form of these records and the regulations for the storage of them on a month-by-month basis for a complete year present problems in providing an efficient storage system.
The object of the present invention is to overcome these problems.
According to the present invention a document file comprises a base sheet of plastics material and at least two strips of plastic material laid parallel to each other on said base sheet and seam welded to said sheet to form open-mouthed document receiving pockets arranged in at least two rows, the material of said strips being sufficiently stretchable that the volume of each pocket increases as more documents are placed in it.
Conveniently said base sheet can be set with a central fold so that the two halves of the sheet lie back-to-back and a suspension rod can be located in a sleeve at the fold, the sleeve being defined by the fold and a seam weld between the two halves of the sheet, the seam weld extending along a line spaced from and parallel to the fold. The suspension rod enables the file to be hung in a filing cabinet in conventional manner and in this case the rows of pockets on the outwardly facing surfaces of both halves of the base sheet have their open mouths facing the suspension rod. When such a file is used for vehicle tachograph record storage, two rows of pockets can be provided on each half of the base sheet, each row comprising three pockets.Hence the file has a total of twelve pockets, one for each month, so that the records for one vehicle for one year can be stored in a single file on a month-by-month basis.
One example of file in accordance with the invention and designed for the storage of vehicle tachograph records will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a plan view of one face of the file, and Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the file.
Referring now to the drawings, the file comprises a base sheet 1 of 0.014" flexible PVC which is coloured, e.g. blue, and which is set with a central fold so that the two halves la and lb of the base sheet lie back to back. A suspension rod 2 locates in a sleeve at the fold, the sleeve being defined by the fold line and a seam weld 3. The suspension rod 2 is provided with hooks 4 at its end so that the file can be hung in a filing cabinet in conventional manner.
To each of the outwardly facing surfaces of the two halves la and 1b of the base sheet are seam welded upper and lower strips 5 and 6 of 0.006" natural flexible PVC which is translucent. Each strip is formed into the three open-mouthed pockets by weld lines referenced 7 to 12, the open mouths of the pockets facing the suspension rod 2. The width of the pockets is just slightly greater than the diameter of a tachograph record disc 13 and the positioning of the pocket forming strips 5 and 6 is such that each row of pockets can accommodate the discs without any overlap between the discs in the upper and lower rows and without the discs in the upper row projecting beyond the top edge of the file.
The material of the strips 5 and 6 is sufficiently stretchable that each pocket can expand to take 31 discs, i.e. one month's records for one vehicle.
Hence the twelve pockets provided on the two halves 1a and 1b of the base sheet accommodate the tachograph records for one year of one vehicle.
Screen printed on to each of the pockets in a contrasting colour to the colour of the base sheet is lettering designating a respective month of the year.
This lettering is positioned so that it overlies the central holes in the tachograph discs and hence shows up clearly against the background colour of the base sheet.
A transparent plastics tab 14 is welded to the top edge of the file, for receiving an index card for file indentification purposes.
