Abstract

In preparing the ointment the solid such as wax, camphor should first be melted together in oil over a slow fire until thoroughly melted, mixed and disappeared in oil. This mixture then should be poured in cold water, which will produce semi-solid mass. This semi-solid mass then should be rubbed and washed in cold water at least more than once, produce a creamy, smooth, stable, non-toxic, antiseptic and antipruritic ointment ready for use.

Description

SPECIFICATION A process for producing a stable non-toxic antiseptic and antipruritic burns ointment The following specification particularly describes and ascertains the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
This invention relates to a process for producing a stable nontoxic antiseptic and antipruritic burns ointment.
It is an object of this invention to provide a rubefacient anesthestic and germicidal burn therapy.
The various lotions containing camphor and paraffin wax are already known in the art; but its one or other way not so exhaustive, effective, complete and curative.
It has now been found in accordance with the present invention that a solution containing a relatively proportion of oil, paraffin wax and camphor can be obtained by incorporating in the solution in a particular manner and that the solution obtained from oil, paraffin wax and camphor is effective in the treatment of every type of burns, wounds or infections associated thereto; The present process is carried out as fol lows::- The initial base oil is heated preferably up to 1 40 Degree centigrade temperature, then paraffin wax is added into the said hot oil and when paraffin wax is melted and disappeared into the said hot oil then camphor is added into the resulting mixure of said hot oil and paraffin wax at 1 40 degree centigrade to 1 50 degree centigrade temperature, when camphor is also melted and disappeared into the said resulting mixture of oil and paraffin wax then it is removed from the heat and poured very slowly into the utensil filled with cold water 10 to 20 times more in quantity than the resulting mixture so as to avoid sprinkling of water which may occur due to pouring of hot mixure and said resulting mixture turns into the semisolid yellowish aforementioned ointment which is further rubbed and washed in cold water for one to five times this provides a creamy, smooth, stable and nontoxic ointment wherein the weight ratio of oil, paraffin wax and camphor is 1:1:0.2 to 1:0.2:0.0012 respectively. The said ointment becomes more effective according to the number of washes.
The process can also be carried out by heating the oil, paraffin wax and camphor all together and at a time or either putting or adding the camphor or paraffin wax first in oil. But the main essence of the process is this that the compound of oil, paraffin wax and camphor should be prepared by heating all the three elements as aforesaid degree of temperature and ratio till the camphor and paraffin wax melt and disappear in the oil.
The oil means ground nut oil, palm oil, coconut oil, cottonseed oil, sesam oil, soyabean oil, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, castor oil, ghee, fats and other edible oils.
Bees wax and the soft paraffin can also be used in place of paraffin wax. In case of soft paraffin the ratio can be changed accordingly depending upon the softness of the soft paraffin.
The exact nature of the chemical or physical reaction which takes place during the process of the invention is not precisely understood but it is assumed that some kind of reaction does in fact occur since the ointment obtained as the product of the process is stable and nontoxic.
The precise manner in which the therapeutic effect of ointment produced in accordance with the invention is obtained is not as yet completely understood but it acts as rubefacient which causes dilation of the blood capillaries so as to supply more fresh blood particularly to the burned area of the body which is essentially required to healup the damaged tissues.
The ointment excites the sweat glands and secretion of sweat glands produce more sweat which reduces the excessive heat occured by burn and makes the burned tissues more calm and relieves from the burning sensation. It also keeps the burned area of the body wet so as to keep the tissues alive.
The ointment anesthetises to the peripheral nerves system of the body and thus reduces the pain and chilli sensations. It also acts as counter-irritant and thus reduces the dipper pain of the body.
The ointment is germicidal which prevents and controls every sort of infection which produces sepsis and acts as best antiseptic. It also regenerates the damaged tissues and quickly healup the burn wound. The scar formation does not occur at all and the complete normal texture of the body.can be reproduced. It also possess antipruritic properties and allows the smooth recovery of burn.
It does not produce any side effect and toxicity.
The ointment according to the invention is a composition having synergistic properties and not a mere mixture possessing only the aggregate of properties of the individual components.
The ointment produced in accordance with the invention can be used for the treatment of external burns, wounds, skin infections and ulcers by repeated application to the affected parts of the human and animal body. It can be applied to a very tender area such as raw wound or open burns and there is no pain felt whatsoever. It can be applied to the healing ulcer as well as to nonhealing ulcer. Rather the application of the ointment is pleasurable and feels cool to the patient. It can also readily and generously be applied by hand over the raw tissues even in the instance of large burns. Auniform thin layer of the ointment can be applied on the clean sterilized piece of cotton cloth. The number of applications depends upon the degree of burns but normally can be applied after every five to six hours in a day till the wound is healed up.
The following example illustrates a preferred imbodiment of the invention: EXAMPLE To 1000 grams of oil was added 500 grams of paraffin wax and the resulting mixture was heated to about 1 40 degree centigrade temperature, when paraffin wax already melted and disappeared into the said oil then 30 grams of camphor was added into the said resulting mixture of oil and paraffin wax at 1 40 degree centigrade to 1 50 degree centigrade temperature, when the camphor also melted and disappeared then the said resulting mixture was removed from the heat and poured into the utensil filled with 20000 grams of cold water and the said resulting mixture was turned into the semi-solid yellowish coloured ointment, then this resulting ointment was further rubbed and washed into the cold water for one to five times every time with a fresh water which produced a creamy smooth stable nontoxic ointment effective in the treatment of every kind of burns.

Claims (4)

1. A process for producing a stable nontoxic antiseptic and antipruritic burns ointment which comprises adding paraffin wax into oil as herein described heated at about 1 40 degree centigrade temperature to 1 50 degree centigrade temperature and when paraffin wax completely melted and disappeared into oil then camphor is added into the resulting mixture of said hot oil and paraffin wax at about 140 degree centigrade to 1 50 degree centigrade temperature and when camphor is also melted and disappeared completely into the said resulting mixture then it is removed from the heat and poured into the utensil filled with the cold water and the said resulting mixture turns into the yellowish semisolid ointment the novelty which is further washed in cold water provides a creamy smooth stable nontoxic ointment wherein the weight ratio of the oil, paraffin wax and camphor is 1:1:0.2 to 1:0.2:0.0012 respectively.

A process as claimed in claim 1 can also be carried out be heating the oil, paraffin wax and camphor at a time and all together either putting or adding the camphor or paraffin wax in oil first, as aforesaid ratio and degree of temperature and the compound of oil, paraffin wax and camphor can be prepared by heating the oil, paraffin wax and camphor till the camphor and paraffin wax melt and disappear in the oil.
3. A process as claimed in claim 1 wherein each heating step the mixture is heated to a temperature of about 1 50 degree centigrade.
4. A process for producing a stable nontoxic antiseptic and antipruritic burns ointment as claimed in claim 1 substantially as hereinbefore described with a reference to the example.
