Abstract

An externally supported cylindrical spreader for tubular fabric has segmental guide elements (1) which extend in the longitudinal direction of the spreader. Each guide element has surface corrugations (2) with troughs (2a). To prevent accumulation of treatment liquid, delivered by spray nozzles 4, in the troughs they have bores (5) which communicate with the interior of the spreader. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION An externally supported cylindrical spreader for tubular fabric This invention relates to an externally supported cylindrical spreader for treatment of a tubular fabric with liquid treatment agent. A spreader is known which has a central carrier for radially adjustable, spreadable supports and segmental fabric-guiding elements carried by the supports. At each end of the carrier, a body tapering in the longitudinal direction may be provided as inlet member or outlet member, respectively, the guide elements extending in the longitudinal direction between these two tapering bodies. Undulations may be formed on the surface of the guide elements, transversely to the direction of transport of the tubular fabric, at least in that part of the surface of the guide elements which is exposed to the liquid treatment agent. These undulations improve the action of the treatment agent as well as facilitating movement of the fabric along the spreader. Spray nozzles for the treatment agent may be arranged in a ring round the spreader so that the spray is directed mainly towards the troughs of the undulations.
It has been found that an accumulation of liquid may form if the spray is directed into the troughs, even if the troughs are open at the sides, on the longitudinal edges of the guide elements. This accumulation is liable to impair the action of the liquid treatment agent. Moreover, if the fabric is not under sufficient tension, the spray pressure of the nozzles may press it against parts of the troughs of the undulations, causing it to cling there and rendering transport of the fabric more difficult.
It is an object of the present invention to overcome this difficulty and avoid accumulation of liquid and clinging of the fabric.
According to this invention an externally supported spreader for tubular fabric comprises guide elements which extend in the longitudinal direction of the spreader which guide elements, at least over part of their length, have undulations in the form of corrugations on their surface transversely to the direction of transport of the material, wherein bores communicating with the interior of the spreader are arranged in the troughs of the corrugations.
In this way, treatment medium is no longer able to accumulate in the troughs and satisfactory action of the liquid treatment agent from both sides of the fabric is ensured.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the drawing, the single Figure of which is a longitudinal section.
Referring to the drawing, a guide element 1 of a spreader for tubular fabric has undulations 2 on its surface. The troughs 2a are situated between the elevations of the undulations. The path taken by the tubular fabric 3 is indicated in dash-dot lines.
The fabric 3 on the whole touches the spreader only at the elevations 2 of the undulations. Spray nozzles 4 are arranged outside the spreader. The spray from these nozzles is directed towards the troughs 2a. The treatment liquid delivered by the spray nozzles 4 and passing through the fabric 3 collects in the trough 2a. From there, it is able to pass through the bores 5 in the trough, so that accumulation of liquid in the troughs of the corrugations is prevented.
1. An externally supported cylindrical spreader for tubular fabric, comprising guide elements which extend in the longitudinal direction of the spreader which guide elements, at least over part of their length, have undulations in the form of corrugations on their surface transversely to the direction of transport of the material, wherein bores communicating with the interior of the spreader are arranged in the troughs of the corrugations.
2. A spreader according to claim 1 comprising a central carrier for radially adjustable, spreadable supports, the guide elements being segmental and being carried by the supports between two bodies tapering in the longitudinal direction of the spreader, the bodies constituting input and output members respectively.
3. An externally supported cylindrical spreader for tubular fabric constructed and arranged substantially as hereindescribed and shown in the drawing.
