Abstract

An instrument for promoting artificial breeding, particularly of dogs, comprises a phallus simulator 1 and an inflatable bag 5 for simulating a bulbus glandis. A tube 10 for inflating the bulb 5 enters the simulator 1 at a proximal end 4. An inflator 12 is connected to the tube 10, and a clamp 13 prevents deflation of the bag 5. The invention includes a method in which after artificial insemination, the instrument is inserted into the vagina so that the bag 5 is immediately distal of the constrictor vestibuli muscle, inflating the bag 5 to develop a tie, and leaving the bag 5 inflated for a period as in normal mating. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Artificial breeding The invention relates to an instrument and method for promoting artificial breeding, particularly of dogs. An instrument according to the invention comprises a phallus simulator, and an inflatable bag surrounding the simulator near the proximal end for simulating a bulbus glandis. The instrument preferably includes a tube for inflating the bag entering the body at the proximal end, an inflator connected to the tube, and means for preventing deflation of the body.
The invention includes a method which comprises artificially inseminating a female dog, inserting into the vagina an instrument according to the invention so that the bag is immediately distal of the constric torvestibuli muscle, inflating the bag so that the constrictor vestibuli develops a tie with the bag, and leaving the bag inflated for a period approximating to that of the tie during normal mating.
The bag stimulates the female being treated so as to bring about a physical and psychlological reaction comparable to that occurring during natural mating.
The tie causes a contraction or pulling of the uterus which tends to promote seminal movement, and it is thought that semen continues to flow from the male in this interval. The female psychologically associates the sensations effected by the tie with the copulatory act, and is thus sexually prepared for fertilization.
The instrument is useful for artificial breeding of animals that develop a tie during mating, or where the female is similarly stimulated. The instrument also ensures retention of semen. The instrument can be of simple construction and economically produced so as to be disposable after a single use.
The bag is preferably inflated with air, but water for example may be used, and if so is preferably warmed beforehand.
Drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of an instrument in accordance with the invention in an inoperative condition; and Figure 2 is a transverse section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 illustrating the instrument in an operative or inflated condition.
With reference to the drawings, an artificial breeding instrument A comprises a phallus simulator 1, at its distal end 2 being tapered and closed. The simulator 1 is fabricated of a plastics flexible material which is soft, pliable and flexible. It has a lengthwise bore 3, and is open at its proximal end 4.
Near the proximal end 4, the simulator 1 is surrounded by a thin-walled, inflatable bag 5 comprising an expansible air chamber 6. At its opposite ends, the bag 5 is provided with aligned openings 7,8 having edges 7', 8', respectively, turned inward for air-proof engagement with the outer face of the simulator 1 by means of an appropriate adhesive.
Substantially centrally within the portion of simulator 1 surrounded by the bag 5, an opening 9 is formed in the wall for an outer end of a tube 10. The tube 10 progresses through the simulator 1, outward of the proximal end 4 and is secured to a flexible fitting 11 connected to an inflator 12. On the fitting 11 is a clamp 13, by the positioning of which the fitting 11 may be closed to prevent air escaping from the body.
1. An instrument for promoting artificial breeding comprising a phallus simulator, and an inflatable bag surrounding the simulator near the proximal end for simulating a bulbus glandis.
2. An instrument according to claim 1 including a tube for inflating the bag entering the body at the proximal end, an inflator connected to the tube, and means for preventing deflation of the body.
3. An instrument according to claim 1 or claim 2 in which the body is closed at the distal end.
4. An instrument for promoting artificial breeding of dogs as herein described with reference to the drawings.
5. A method for promoting artificial breeding comprising artificial inseminating a female dog, inserting into the vagina an instrument according to any preceding claim so that the bag is immediately distal of the constrictor vestibuli muscle, inflating the bag so that the constrictor vestibuli develops a tie with the bag, and leaving the bag inflated for a period approximating to that of the tie during normal mating.
