Description

SPECIFICATION A cap of a reservoir of a vehicle The present invention relates to a filtering breather cap of a reservoir of a vehicle.
A tractor requires a relatively large hydraulic oil tank where the oil level should be maintained at a rather high level, as external hydraulic cylinders requiring large quantities of oil are often used with tractors. As known, in a tractor separate tanks are needed for hydraulic oil and engine lubrication oil, as purity requirements for hydraulic oil and lubrication oil are different.
The seals and gaskets of various spaces containing oil are so designed as to completely prevent oil leakages. Therefore in a tractor that is in good condition, the only point where oil leaks is the filtering breather cap of the oil tank.
An indication of this is the Tact that virtually every tractor is oily around the cap of the hydraulic oil tank. The reason of this leakage is that, when driving on an uneven surface, particularly in agricultural use, the tractor rocks in such a way that the surface of the hydraulic oil, which lies rather near the cap, splashes so that the inner surface of the cap air filter is sprinkled with oil which consequently penetrates through the air filter to its outer surface and then drips through air inlets on the oil tank casing. This leakage makes the tractor untidy, particularly as the leaked oil is contaminated with dust, soil and other impurities. The perviousness of the air filter is also diminished due to oil splashes. In practice, the oil leaking through the cap adds up to much higher quantities than oil leaking through all seals and gaskets of a tractor put together.
The invention seeks to eliminate the drawbacks mentioned above.
According to the invention, there is provided a cap for a reservoir of a vehicle, and having an air breather filter wherein a tubular part is fitted into an aperture of the cap section and extends a substantial way into the air filter, a reduced section being provided as the inner end of the tubular part, the tubular part together with its reduced section being arranged to prevent splashes from the reservoir from entering into the spaced bounded by the filter.
The invention will now be described in greater detail, by way of example, with reference to the drawings, in which: Figure A is a cap for the filling opening of an hydraulic oil tank of a tractor, in accordance with the state of art; Figure 1 is a similar illustration of an oil tank cap in accordance with the invention and, Figure 2 shows a vertical sectional view of an hydraulic oil tank with its cap.
Fig. A illustrates the state of art, in which a combined cap and air filter unit 1 OA comprises a case 11, fastened at its lower edge to annular flange 1 2. The actual cap section 14, with a hole 14' at its center, is fastened by means of a compression joint in the aperture of the annular flange. The cap section 1 4 is screw threaded at 1 5 and a seal 1 7 is located above the thread. Cap 1 0A is fastened by means of the screw thread 1 5 to a similar thread provided in the opening of the oil tank, and at this point, seal 1 7 closes the filling opening in a leak-proof manner. The outer surface of case 11 is fitted with notches for easy closing and opening of the cap.Inside the case 11, against the lower flange 12, there is an annular air filter 19, through which air is let into the hydraulic oil tank 23 (Fig. 2) and out of it as the oil level L-L (Fig. 2) varies in the tank. The flange 1 2 has holes 14' for free passage of air.
In Fig. A, arrow A illustrates an oil splash coming from the oil tank 23, which splash sticks to the inner surface of the filter 1 9 and consequently penetrates through the porous filter to the outer surface of filter 19. It then gradually flows through holes 14" of the inner surface of the flange 1 2 onto the casing of the oil tank, particularly onto its vertical end surface.
As far as details 11-19 are concerned, oil tank cap 10 of Fig. A keeps to the state of art. In accordance with the invention, a tubular section 20 of an axial length preferably several times larger than diameter D, is attached to the hole of cap section 1 4 by, for instance, a compression joint or weld joint 20". At the top end of tubular section 20 there is reduced section 20' with, at its centre, an opening 21, whose diameter dis considerably smaller than the diameter of the tubular section. In the vertical direction, tubular section 20 extends considerably above the level of the flange 12, preferably above the middle of filter section 1 9.
In Fig. 1, arrow C illustrates an oil splash in a cap in accordance with the invention. According to arrow C, the tubular section 20 in all cases prevents the oil from entering into contact with the inner surface of filter 1 9.
Even though oil might splash into tubular section 20, at least the reduced section 20' turns oil splashes back into oil tank 23.
Fig. 2 illustrates the location of cap 10, in accordance with the invention, on the oil tank.
The hydraulic oil tank comprises a housing 22 and a substantial oil space 23 with this housing. The oil level is illustrated by the chain line L-L. Within the oil tank, there is shaft 25, known as such, its ends being connected with the lift links 24 of the three-point hitch rock-shaft of the tractor. Shaft 25 is turned by arm 26 linked by 25 to piston 28 inside hydraulic cyclinder 29. In the vertical wall of the oil tank there is check port 30 below which oil level L-L should not drop.
