206,556. Thornton, A. A., (MeasurÚ- graph Co.). July 10, 1922. Multiple indication apparatus. - Relates to machines for measuring fabric in which the fabric is drawn through the pass between two rollers, one of which operates the length-indicating mechanism and the other of which is mounted on a movable carrier, and consists in means whereby when the carrier is moved, the zero-setting devices are operated. The machine is provided as described below with a price-computing chart, a pointer for indicating tractions of a yard and a dial for indicating yards, the chart and indicators being zeroized simultaneously upon the separation of the rollers. Means are provided for preventing the insertion of fabric between the rollers before all the indicators have been zeroized; for preventing false indication due to momentum of parts; and for slitting the edge of the fabric to indicate the line along which it is to be severed. Units-indicating wheel operating, zeroizing, and rebound preventing mechanism for. The wheel 29, Fig. 9, has a flange 30 provided with units indications 31, Fig. 1, visible through an opening 32 in the top of the machine, and is mounted on a sleeve carrying a toothed disc 46, Fig. 8, normally held against backward motion by a spring-controller pawl 68. Upon each complete revolution of the shaft 33 actuating the pointer 27 for indicating fractions of a yard of fabric passed through the machine, a projection 98 on a clutch member 44 on the shaft engages a projection 99 on a spring-controlled slide 88 carrying a spring-controlled lever 85. When the slide is moved to the right of Fig. 8, a tail 97 of the lever 85 leaves a fixed stop 96, and a projection 86 engages a tooth 67 on the disc 46. To prevent over-running of the disc, the projection 86 moves beneath a fixed guide 102. When the wheel 29 is to be set to zero, a stem 77 is raised through the operation of a shaft 74 and lifts the pawl 68, whereupon a spring 64 rotates the wheel to a position determined by stops, the projection 86 being held clear of the teeth 67 by the engagement of the tail 97 with the stop 93. During this motion of the wheel 29, the projection 99 has been raised above the projection 98 by the simultaneous operation of the devices for zeroizing the fractions pointer. To prevent rebound of the wheel 29 upon zeroizing, the pawl 68 carries a spring-controlled dog having a cam surface 105 adapted to be moved into the path of a projection 107 on the disc 46, upward movement of the dog being limited by an extension 103<a> adapted to move between the face of a wheel and a fixed plate. Fractions indicator, operating and zeroizing mechanism for. The pointer 27, Fig. 1, moves over a dial 26 graduated in inches and fractions of a yard and is mounted on a sleeve 33, Fig. 9, carrying a loose clutch member 43 integral with a wheel 42 connected by toothed gearing to the upper one of the pair of rollers between which the fabric to be measured is drawn. A slidable spring-controlled. clutch member 44 normally engages the member 48 to effect rotation of the sleeve 33. A clutch member 54 fast on the sleeve engages a spring-controlled clutch member 55 loose on the sleeve, the member 55 rotating until the tension of a spring 57 overcomes the friction between the parts 54, 55. When it is desired to set the pointer 27 to zero, a stem 51 loose in the sleeve 33 is raised by the operation of a rock shaft 74, Fig. 8, and raises a pin 52 which is secured to the clutch member 44 and is slidable in the sleeve 33. The clutch members 43, 44 are thereby disengaged, and the spring 57 rotates the sleeve until a projection on the clutch member 54 engages one end of a spring-controlled detent, the other end of which normally engages a fixed stop. Price-computing chart, operating and zeroizing mechanism for. The chart 4, Fig. 1, is visible through an opening in the casing of the machine adjacent a fixed price scale 5. The chart is mounted on a drum 3, Fig. 4, having also a length indicator 25. The drum is driven by gearing from the measuring-roller 1 through a clutch member 12 on the shaft 11 of the drum and a spring-controlled clutch member 13. A stem 14 slidable in the shaft is adapted to disengage the clutch member to allow the drum to be returned by a spring tc zero position as determined by a fixed stop. Separating, measuring and presser rollers; common zeroizing devices. The presser roller 2, Fig. 4, which is separated from the measuring roller 1 when fabric is to be inserted into the machine, is mounted on a spring-controlled carriage 21 which is adapted to be depressed by a finger-piece 112, Fig. 1, and simultaneously effect the zeroizing of all the indicators of the machine.
