Abstract
A handle 1 is receivable in a holder socket 7 for example on a wash basin. The handle 1 encloses a water passage. A shower head 2 is attached at an angle to a head 2. The head 2 contains a water shut-off valve 9 and has shower openings 25 to the left and a rotatable knob 10 for operating the valve 9 to the right. The shower openings 25 are in a bush 23 rotatable with respect to the head and including a larger opening 26 leading from a guide tube 21 engageable in one orientation with a water outlet 28 and in another with a closing cam 32. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Bath fittings
The invention relates to shower bath fittings suit
able for use on camp sites.
A fitting according to the invention comprises a
handle receivable in a holder and enclosing a water
passage, a head attached at an angle to the handle, a
water shut-off valve in the head, shower openings to
one side of the head and a rotatable valve-operating
knob on the opposite side of the head.
The fitting may of course be used for a shower
bath or as a fitting on a basin forwashing hands or cleaning dishes for example. For showering, the fitting is pulled out of its holder socket and moved towards the body. The valve being in the head makes the fitting easy to apply, and the water supply economical and quick to control.
Preferably, the valve comprises a member rotatable in a housing, the member having a recess for connecting the water passage to the shower openings and having a part-spherical wall for the gradual deflection of the water. Preferably also the shower openings are in a bush rotatable with respect to the head which includes an eccentric larger diameterjet opening which in one orientation ofthe bush is alone in communication with the water passage.
Advantageously, the bush overlaps a junction piece of the head in which a water outlet has the same eccentricity as the jet openings and engages with a tube for guiding waterthrough thejet opening.
There may be snap-on connections between any adjacent pair of hose union, the handle, the head, the operating knob and the shower bush.
It is possible, buy a simple turn of the bush, to arrange for the waterto leave either th rough the shower openings or as a single jet through the water jet opening.
The shower head is preferably rotatable in relation to the handle about an axis extending nearly normal to the piston or the rotational axis of the control knob. If shower head and handle are rotated in relation to each other positions at different angles of the shower head in relation to the shower handle are obtained.
Figure 1 is a side view of a shower bath fitting according to the invention in a closed position;
Figure 2 shows the fitting of Figure 1 with the handle turned about its longitudinal axis by 90"C in relation to the head and in an open position; and
Figure 3 is an enlarged longitudinal section through the shower head as in Figure 2.
In the drawings, the shower bath fitting comprises a handle 1 rotatable about its longitudinal axis and equipped, at one end, with a shower head 2 and at the other end with an angled connecting piece 3 receivable in a holder on a wash basin, for example.
The connecting piece 3 has a union 4 for a water hose. The junctions between handle 1 and head 2 on the one hand and the connecting piece 3 on the other are in the form of a snap-on connection which permits rotation of the handle 1 about its longitudinal axis 6 in relation to the head 2 as well as to the connecting piece 3. The contact surface 5 of the
handle 1 adjacent the head 2 is not normal to the
longitudinal axis 6 of the handle 1 but at a slight
incline to it. The handle 1 is rotatable from the posi
tion illustrated in Figure 1 by 1800about its longitud
inal axis 6 to the position illustrated in Figure 2 with
flatter incline of the head 2. To secure the fitting, the
handle 1 may be pushed with its connecting piece 3
into a socket 7 which may be the rim of a wash basin.
In Figure 3 a snap-on connection 8 between the
handle 1 and head 2 is indicated. Incorporated into the head 2 is a shut-off valve 9 in the form of a piston which is non-rotatably connected to a cap-shaped
operating knob 10 rotatably mounted on one side of a housing 11. A rotational axis 12 of the knob 10 is in alignment with the valve 9. The piston forming the valve 9 has a recess 13 extending, in the open position illustrated in Figure 3, across the entire opening of a water passage 14 and the largest part of the cross section of a first outlet 15. A cylindrical wall 16 of the piston limiting the recess 13 is of spherical shape so as to effect a gradual deflection of the water from the passage 14 into the outlet 15.
An O-ring 17 diagonally extending across the piston surface and essentially parallel to the wall 16 is held in a corresponding groove of the piston and acts as a seal. A further O-ring 18 seals the piston chamber against the side of the knob 10. Nonrotatably connected to the piston is a junction piece 19 which has a slot-in connection with the housing 11. An outward-pointing circular ridge 20 serves as a retaining meansforthe knob 10. The junction piece 19 has two stops 21 protruding into the housing 11 and cooperating with a stop 22 of the housing 11.
Attached to the outlet side of the housing 11 is a snap-on bush 23 which is freely rotatable in relation to the housing 11. The face 24 of the bush has shower openings 25 and an eccentric water jet opening 26 of larger diameter. The bush 23 overlaps a junction piece 27 of the housing 11 in which is arranged a further water outlet 28 with the same eccentricity as the opening 26. Between an end face 29 of the junction piece 27 and the face 24 of the bush 23 there remains a chamber 30 into which the shower openings 25 lead. The opening 26 is guided through the chamber 30 by a tube 31 which is supported against the end face 29 of the junction piece 27 so as to be watertight. On the end face 29 of the junction piece 27 is a closing cam 32 which, as the bush 23 is turned from the position illustrated in Figure 3, is covered by the tube 31 in one orientation and fixes a second rotational position of the bush 23 in which the water flowing out of the outlet 28 leaves solely through the openings 25.
The bush 23 is of approximately the same diameter as the knob 10. With this arrangement it is especially advantageous that the housing 11, the knob 10 and the bush 23 together make up a body with a smooth surface. All illustrated parts with the exception of the O-rings 17 and 18 may be of plastics materials. For easy operation of the valve 9, the knob 10 is equipped with an operating tab 33. The fitting is easy to manufacture and instal as the knob 10, bush 23 and handle 1 with the housing 11 are attached simply by a snap-on or snap-in operation. These snap-on connections are each provided with O-rings 24 for sealing.
