Abstract

206,222. French, G. F. Aug. 1, 1922. Band strainers.-In a device for stretching seat and like webbing of the kind comprising a lever member provided with a transverse clamping plate carried by pivoted side arms, the clamping plate is adapted to lie flat against the lever when not in use and at an angle thereto when in operative position. The clamping plate d is carried by arms c pivoted to the sides of the lever a. The end of the webbing e is passed over the clamping plate and between it and the lever, so that an angular movement of the lever about the edge of the chair causes the tension of the web on the upper edges of the clamping plate to nip the end of the webbing between the lower edge of the clamping plate and the flat face of the lever. The nipping edge of the plate d may have teeth or serrations f, and the clamping plate may be formed integral with the arms c, or it may be carried by the cranked ends of a wire or rod secured to the lever.
