Abstract
A lightweight transportable, readily assembled but rigid kiosk is described, in which the walls are formed from panels of reinforced glass cloth and are bolted together, and hinging of one wall with respect of the next adjacent wall is prevented by internal gussets 36 & 38 and an external gusset in the form of a shelf, the internal gusset forming a component of a cash box. Figure 1 illustrates this. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Kiosks
This invention relates to kiosks.
It is well known to make a kiosk from panels bolted together and also bolted to ground anchors: this design, using cast iron panels, is used for G.P.O. telephone kiosks and solves the problems of storage space in the unassembled condition, and of a rigidity in the assembled condition but is unsuitable for a kiosk which is to be frequently moved, and/or is to be free standing.
An obvious solution to the weight problem for easy transportation is to substitute sheet metal or reinforced fibre giass or like panels for the cast iron panels, but such materials are inherent less rigid. Previous designs on this basis have therefore used elaborate systems of tubular frames, bracing struts and the like on which to mount the panels, and assembly has thus been complicated.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved design to solve the problems.
In accordance with the invention, a kiosk comprises a series of panels forming walls and which are adapted to be fixed together by fastening expedients, at least one corner of the kiosk being reinforced against hinging of the walls forming the corner by a shelf-like gusset disposed inside the corner and a second shelf-like gusset disposed outside the corner, said panels being trapped between the two gussets.
In practice, with a square or like cross-section kiosk, three of the four walls thus defining two corners will be so reinforced, preferably by a single internal and external gusset, and the fourth wall will comprise a door giving access to the kiosk.
One presently preferred embodiment of the invention, will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a kiosk and
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional plan view Cf the same.
As best seen in Figure 1, the kiosk comprises four walls each composed of a single panel made from glass cloth reinforced with resin. Two opposite and generally like (but mirror image) panels 10 12 each have a lower potion 14 which is slightly recessed to increase the stiffness of the panel, a similarly recessed area 16 in the upper portion, and a side window 18 also provided in the upper portion.
The front wall 20 also has a recessed lower stiffening zone 22 and an upper window 24 of similar area and shape to the zone 22. The rear panel 26 which is parallel to the front panel 20 provides a peripheral frame and a hinged opening door allowing access to be gained to the kiosk interior.
Each of the panels is provided with an inturned flange 28 extending vertically and inwardly, and these are arranged so that the flanges 28 on the panel 10 make face to face contact with one flange on the panel 28 and one flange on the panel 20 respectively, and similarly with the other panels. The flanges are fixed togetlher at spaced positions by suitable fastening expedients, and the kiosk is not only to be readily transportable, but is to be easily dismantled and reassembled, the fastening e,spedients may comprise bolts engaged with wing nuts.
Each of the side panels 10 12 is made integrally with a fixed ground engaging leg 30 and a braked castor 32, facilitating manouevring of the assembled Isiosk into precise final position.
Assembly of the kiosk comprises bolting the panels together at the corners. Afloor, which may be a single piece of plywood or the like may be dropped into position through the doorway so as to rest upon interned flanges provided on each of the panels, and by its shape provide some rigidity against hinging of the panels one to the other ot the extreme lower end of the panels.
A roof 34 may similarly provide some stiffening effect at the top of the kiosk but it is preferred to hinge the roof at one edge to one af the panels and to provide a stay at the opposite parallel edge of the roof, enabling the roof to be fired in any of a series of slightly different positions, so that ventilation is provided from the interior i-hroug-h a gap between at least one of the panels and the roof. In this event, the roof may contribute very little in stiffening the structure.
In accordance with the invention, at least one of the corners is gussetted internally and externally. In a preferred arrangement as illustrated, a boss comprising a top shelf 36 and a bottom shelf 38 together with means connecting the two together, is disposed in the kiosk interior and fits substantially flush against the front well 20 and against each of the side walls 10 12.
Where the kiosk is to be used for sales, tile box may comprise a cesh box or even a strong bo;s, with a slot or the like in the top to enable mono to be posted into the bOX interior. The box ma > ,i bo secured by fur'her fastening expediants, and these may also secure the external gusset which is in the front of a U shaped shelf extending over the front wall and side walls at least about the area occupied by the box or shelves. The external gusset may also be of glass cloth reinforced by resin and may be of substantially L cross section with the fastening expedients passing through a short limb of the same. In Figure 2 the fastening expedients are indicated by the reference numerals 40.
The front window 24 is apertured at d2 to enable, for example, money to be passed into Eho kiosk and ticlts, prngrammes, or the like passed out.

Claims (5)
1. A kiosk comprising a series of panels forming walls and which are adapted to be i.'3d together by fastening expedients, at least one corner of the kiosk being reinforced against hinging of one wall relative to the next by a shelf like gusset disposed inside the corner, and a second shelf-like gusset disposed outside the corner, said panels being trapped between the two gussets.
2. A kiosk as claimed in Claim 1 wherein three panels form the walls and a fourth panel comprises a door, and wherein a shelf fits within the three panels to form the inside gusset in relation to two corners, and an external shelf fits about said three panels at substantially the same height up the panels.
3. A kiosk as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the two shelves are fastened together through the thickness of the panels.
4. A kiosk as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the inner gusset shelf forms a component of an internal box or cupboard.
5. A kiosk substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
