Abstract
A grain retaining wall for a grain store comprising one or more vertical frames formed of rolled steel H section girders with wooden boards slotted therebetween and a horizontal platform formed of further girders separated by floor boards at floor level affixed to the vertical frame, inclined stays or tie bars extending between the vertical frames and the platforms to retain the vertical frames in position. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Improvement in grain retaining walls
This invention relates to improvements in grain
retaining walls for grain stores.
A grain retaining wall for a grain store comprising a vertical steel frame of L or T shape formed of rolled steel H section girders connected together by horizontal tie bars affixed to brackets attached to the inner sides of the girders, a horizontal platform formed of rolled steel H section girders at ground level extending inwardly of the vertical frame, wall boards extending between the girders forming the vertical, frame and floor boards extending between the girders of the platform and included stay or tie bars between the vertical frame and the platform to retain the vertical grame in position.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. lisa perspective view of one form of the invention,
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a further form of the invention,
Fig. 4 is a section on line 4-4 Fig. 3,
Fig. 5 is a detail plan view of a corner of the frame; as shown in Fig 1 and 2 a vertical grain retaining wall
A is formed of rolled steel H section members 1 sec uredtogether in the shape of an L or T frame adjacent frames being connected together by a plurality of horizontal tie bars 2 engaging holes in brackets 3 attached to the inner side of the frames.
Boards 4 are slotted into the space between the flanges of two vertical frame members 1.
Stays or tie bars 5 are welded or otherwise sec
ured between the vertical member 1 of each frame
and a foot section 6 which forms a horizontal platform at ground level.
The platform is similarly formed and H section gir
ders affixed to the lower ends of the girders of the vertical section with floor boards slotted into the space between the horizontal girders la.
If the wall is required as a partition rather than a retaining wall, the frame is fabricated with a foot section 6 on both sides of the frame in the form of an inverted T; For larger size walls the frames may be made in sections for ease in handling and transport and erected on the site.
A gangway B may be provided between the wall A and a boundary wall C. In the arrangement shown in
Figs 3 and 4 the frame is strengthened by stays or tie rods 5a and by angle bars 7 on the outside of the frame. The angle bars 7 are bolted to angle brackets 8 bolted to each member 1 as shown in Fig. 4.
Two walls or right angles may be connected together as shown in Fig. 4 with the corner built up as shown in Fig. 5 with the flange of one member of the first frame bolted to the web of the member 1 of the second frame at right angles to the first frame.
The advantage of the hereinbofore retaining wall are that it can be easily assembled and dismantled, no foundations are required, it is light and readily handled of economical construction and suitable for
existing buildings and can be constructed to a greater height than existing walls and when used as a parti-tion does not require a double panel.
1. A grain retaining wall for a grain store comprising a vertical steel frame of L orT shape formed of rolled steel H section girders connected together by horizontal tie bars affixed to brackets attached to the inner sides of the girders, a horizontal platform formed of rolled steel H section girders at ground level, extending inwardly of the vertical frame, wall boards extending between the girders forming the vertical frame and floor boards extending between the girders of the platform and inclined says or tie bars between the vertical frame in position.
2. A grain retaining wall as in Claim 1, in which the horizontal tie bars engage holes in brackets mounted on the vertical girders.
3. A grain retaining walll as in claim 1, in which adjacent frames are reinforced by horizontal angle bars bolted to angle brackets affixed to the girders of the vertical frames.
4. Again retaining wall as in claim 1, in which stays or tie bars extend from the platform to the vertical frame to retain the vertical frame in position.
5. A grain retaining wall for grain stores substantially as described with reference to Figs, 1 and 2 or
Figs. 3 to 5 of the accompanying drawings.
