Description
SPECIFICATION
Device limiting transverse motion of a feed chain for a combined cutter-loader
This invention relates to a device for limiting transverse motion of a combined cutter-loader feed chain, particularly of a duplex type.
Those skilled in the art know from the Polish
Patent Specification No. 96009 entitled "Absorbing device for damping the dynamic vibrations of a combined cutter-loader feed chain" a device for protecting the combined cutter-loader chain against flapping provided with a rectangular tiltable on the side of the fall of roof. At the end of the said outrigger there is an articulated partition ring for guiding the chain. The said chain is mounted in the ring jaws and dismounted therefrom manually, after removal of the securing bolt. Moreover, in order to enable the combined cutter-loader to travel along the said device, the said outrigger should be released manually and tilted in the horizontal plane.
Still another device known from the Polish
Patent Specification No. 103343 entitled "Installation for protection of the combined cutterloader chain" is the one provided with spring-type or spring-hydraulic type shock absorbers situated along the wall. These shock-absorbers are mounted, on one side, on a tubular guide on the conveyor and, on the other side, embrace the plain link chain of the combined cutter-loader.
Major drawbacks of the devices so far used is the necessity of manipulation in direct proximity of the vibrating chain of the combined cutter-loader and the applicability of the device to a single chain only. Moreover, the combined cutter-loader must be stopped prior to proceeding to mounting the chain in the ring of the said device, or to dismounting it from the said ring.
The invention seeks to provide a construction of a device for protection of the chain of a combined cutter-loader against flapping, and thus ensuring safe work of the miners.
According to the present invention, there is provided a device for limiting the transverse motion of the feed chain of a combined cutterloader, for mounting on the side faces of a conveyor chute on the side or the fall of the roof, said device comprising a lever system situated in a plane perpendicular to the conveyor defining together with a gate a space for the passage of the drive chain.
Preferably, the lever system includes a device in which the lever system includes a connecting link, a turntable, a hydraulic power cylinder and a lever connected to one another in an articulated way and so arranged that they form a quadrangle, the said connecting link being parallel to the conveyor and connected on the side of the fall of the roof, to the turntable mounted rotatably on a bracket fastened to the side faces of the gate, the said hydraulic power cylinder being situated above the said connecting link.
The hydraulic power cylinder located above the connecting link may conveniently have the piston rod fastened to the lever, the cylinder of the said power cylinder being mounted to the turntable.
The lever is preferably terminated with a shaft parallel to the conveyor gate advantageously having two sleeves pushed thereon. The said shaft is preferably terminated with a foot provided with an oblique guide on the side of the floor.
The device according to this invention eliminates the necessary presence of personnel in the direct proximity to the vibrating chain of a combined cutter-loader. The said chain can be mounted on and dismounted from the lever system by means of the hydraulic systems and it is not necessary to stop the combined cutter-loader each time the chain is to be mounted or removed.
The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of a conveyor and gate and showing the device closed;
Figure 2 shows the gate on the side of the side wall together with the device when open and turned through 90 degrees; and
Figure 3 shows the gate with a recess.
The device according to the invention is situated on the side of the fall of the roof and is fastened to the side faces of the conveyor chutes 1. It includes a lever system situated in a plane perpendicular to the conveyor 1 and forming, together with a gate 2, a space 3 for the passage of the chain 4 of a combined cutter-loader. The said lever system includes a connecting link 5, turntable 6, hydraulic power cylinder 7 and lever 8 connected to one another by means of articulated joints 9, 10, 11, 12 arranged in such a way that they form a quadrangle, the said connecting link 5 being parallel to the conveyor 1 and located in an open seat 13 in the gate 2.
The open seat 13 prevents rotation of the lever system when in a closed position about the bracket 14. On the side of the fall of the roof the said connecting link 5 is connected to the turntable 6 mounted rotatably on the bracket 14 and fastened to the side faces of the said gate 2, the said turntable being protected against fall down from the said bracket 14 by means of rings 1 5. Above the said connecting link 5 there is a hydraulic power cylinder 7 mounted on the turntable. The cylinder of the said hydraulic power cylinder 7 is connected to the said turntable 6 while the piston rod is fastened to the lever 8 closing the lever system, the said lever 8 being terminated with a shaft 1 6 parallel to the gate 2.
In order to protect the said shaft 1 6 against being broken by the moving feed chain 4 two sleeves 1 7 are preferably mounted rotatably on the said shaft 1 6. The shaft 1 6 is preferably terminated with a foot 1 9 fitted with an oblique guide 1 9 on the side of the floor.
When in operation, the feed chain 4 passes through the space 3 enclosed by the lever system and the gate 2. When the combined cutter-loader comes in contact with the device, the said lever system is deflected in a vertical plane by means of the hydraulic power cylinder 7 and then manually revolved through an angle of 90 degrees. In this position, the space 3 is open, thus making it possible for the combined cutter-loader to pass freely along it.
Upon completion of the travel of the combined cutter-loader the lever system returns to the initial position, whereafter the space 3 is enclosed by the lever system and the gate 2.
