Abstract
A method for the production of dry fodder from fibrous substances, predominantly straw, is disclosed, the method having the purpose of reducing technical equipment requirements, operating costs, and energy and material consumption. Accordingly, process steps of the method are so combined into stages (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) of first and/or second order that several operations can be performed at the same time on one ingredient of the fodder. The kinetic and potential energy in that case fed into the ingredients is at the same time utilized for carrying out the stages, for example for the conveying and mixing, in the production of dry fodder in compact or loose form. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A method for the production of dry fodder
The present invention relates to a method for the production of dry fodder with high energy concentration out of straw or other fibrous substances, with emphasis on economical preparation and refinement of these substances in order to increase the energy concentration in the substances to be processed and deliver them in solid or loose form. Such a method preferably pertains to the production of straw concentrate mixtures with the use of decomposing agents and with or without addition of certain proportions of concentrated feed. The method can be carried out in plant or machines used for production of high grade fodder from substances with low energy concentration.
Different methods are known for the processing of fibrous substances, such as straw, into fodder with enhanced energy concentration. The methods are divided into a variety of process steps, such as coarse comminution of fibrous substances, production of a uniform stock flow, fine comminution of the fibrous substances, mixing of the fibrous substances with decomposing agents, mixing of the decomposed substances with liquid (for example molasses) and solid components (for example cereal, sugar beet cuttings), compacting, and cooling.
Mechanical or pneumatic conveying is carried between the individual steps, and the steps take place successively on the same fodder components.
These known methods have the disadvantage of requiring a high effort in terms of mechanical sophistication, a considerable volume of space, a high energy requirement, a multiplicity of drives and conveying paths, high electrical consumption, substantial service and maintenance effort, and high routine maintenance and operating costs.
Information sources for known methods include the trade journals "Die Muhle und Mischfuttertechnik", volume 44/1977, pages 629 to 631 (Fodder rich in raw fibre structure...), and "Kraftfutter" volume 8/1977 (Rear side of the cover).
There is accordingly a need for a reduction in plant and machine constructional requirements, capital costs necessary for carrying out a method of this kind, energy consumption, and space requirements.
According to the present invention there is provided a method of producing dry fodder with the use of fibrous substances, comprising carrying out a plurality of individual production steps combined into a number of stages of a first and/or second order, wherein one stage can contain the steps of the entire method.
With a method exemplifying the invention, by the combination of the method steps into stages of a first and/or second order it becomes possible to perform several operations at the same time on one component for the fodder. The kinetic and potential energy supplied to the components during these operations is at the same time utilized for carrying out the steps, for example conveying or mixing, in the production of dry fodder in compact or loose form. The entire method is divided into several stages which each consist of several steps, for example:
Method stages Method steps
first order Storage, preparation and Storage
metering of fibrous substances -loosening-up with low energy content, -foreign body separation
predominantly straw ---comminution mixing
buffering limination and/or conversion

2 Storage, preparation and storage metering of solid components -foreign body separation
apart from fibrous omminution substances -metering mixing -mass and/or volume

3 Storage, preparation and storage metering of liquid and -preparation (for example

4 Production of the mixture -limination and/or

A smaller number of machine and plant compo- nents is needed as a consequence of the combina
tion of the method steps into stages of first and sec
ond order, whereby a reduction in energy and mater
ial consumption, space requirements and operating
costs is achieved. Moreover, the versatility of the
plant may be subsequently increased.
Examples of the present invention will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. lisa schematic diagram of a method according to a first example of the invention,
Fig. 2 is a schematic diagram of a method according to a second example of the invention, and
Fig. 3 is a schematic diagram of a method according to a third example of the invention.
Referring now to the drawings and examples in detail:
Example I
A method for dry fodder production is divided up,
according to the example shown in Fig. 1, into five
stages of first order, as follows: lstorage, preparation and metering of fibrous
substances,
2--storage, preparation and metering of solid com
ponents, 3storage, preparation andmetering of liquid and
gaseous components,
4-mixing, buffering and metering, and 5-finishing.
In this example, storage, preparation and metering of the fibrous substances, and the solid and/or liquid and/or gaseous components 3 takes place in parallel, while the mixing, buffering and metering 4, or only the mixing and the finishing 5, takes place thereafter.
A further improvement of the structuring of the method can be obtained through combination of stages of the first order in all possible ways in accordance with the principles of combinatorial analysis.
In such combinations, the ingredient preparing steps can take place parallelly and/or successively, while the mixing and buffering, or only mixing and finishing, steps take place in succession.
Example 2
Fig. 2 shows the admixture of the fodder components in the second example of the invention, wherein the feeding of prepared and/or unprepared solid 2 and/or liquid and/or gaseous components 3 to the fibrous substances can take place before, during and after the preparation of the fibrous substances 1. In that case, all combinations are possible so that some components are added before, others during and others after the preparation. Afavourable aspect of this example is that a decomposing agent can be fed to the fibrous substances during a comminution step, with the other components being added to the formulation after conclusion of the preparation.
Example 3
Fig. 3 shows a modification of the other examples, in which, for further simplification of the method, the stages of the first order -- storage, preparation and metering -- of the liquid, gaseous 3 and solid components 2 (apart from straw) and/or the storage, preparation and metering of fibro us substances 1, predominantly straw, are taken out of the method, as indicated by the references 2.1 and 3.1. In this case the preparation takes place in another economical process so that prepared components are available.
Consequently, the method only comprises the stages of storage, preparation and metering of the fibrous substances 1, mixing, buffering and metering 4 and finishing 5, or only the mixing, buffering and metering 4 and the finishing 5. Only one or two machines are needed to carry out the method, due to the minimum number of stages.
