Abstract

Cropping.-Fabric g passing through a cutting or cropping or like machine is automatically tensioned by a device comprising at each side a T-shaped lever, pivoted about a fixed bar a and carrying rods d, i and a weighted roller f over which the cloth passes to the usual fixed rail h and thence to the cutting bed. The lever may be a two armed lever only, in which case there is no rod i and the cloth takes the path at the beginning as shown by the chain-dotted line g. Any abnormal pull on the fabric causes the levers to pivot about the bar a and relieves the pressure of the weighted roller, while undue slackness permits the weighted roller to fall, thus increasing the tension. Lugs c<4> may be formed on the levers for attaching extra weights.
