Abstract

205,203. Buckingham, E. J., and Dickens, S. G. July 14, 1922. Sparking - plugs. - The casing a and gland nut d are internally coned so as to engage oppositely tapered surfaces on the insulator. A washer e may be interposed. Auxiliary electrodes k end slightly below the outer end of the insulator. The high-tension current is led through the insulating cap m to the washer l and thence passes across gaps both to the central electrode h and additional electrodes k. The washer l may be formed either with a circumferential groove or with a projecting lug for engagement by the external lead. It may be circularly bored, or be formed with internal projections placed adjacent to the ends of the rods k. Its underside may be concave, and in this case the rods k project beyond the insulator and their ends are riveted. The gland nut d is manipulated by means of transverse cuts f across its upper end.
