Abstract

205,072. Usines G. Derihon Soc. Anon. Oct. 7, 1922, [Convention date]. Cataracts.-A shock-absorber of the type permitting free movement of the suspension springs away from their normal position but retarding their return movement comprises a casing 1 divided into three compartments 3, 4, 5 by two fixed partitions 6, 7 which may be in one piece and a partition 8 movable in a rotary direction. The movable partition 8 is provided with a hub 9 engaging a trunnion or pivot 10 on the casing. The fixed partitions are provided with valved apertures 34, 35 and a common aperture 13 communicating with a recess 14. The hub is provided with grooves and recesses 15, 16. The partition 8 is free to move in either direction away from mid-position. Assuming a shock causes it to move to the right or anti-clockwise the fluid in compartment 3 passes into compartments 5 through recesses 15, 14 which are placed in communication by the movement and fluid passes from compartment 5 to compartment 4 through valved aperture 34. The return movement is strongly retarded since valved aperture 34 closes and the recesses 14, 16 are not in communication. In a modification, flap valves placed in a recess in the fixed partitions may replace the valves shown. Fuid-tightness is ensured by spring-controlled segments 17, 18 and side and end spring-controlled segments 25, 27 situated in a slot in the movable partition 8.
