Abstract

A lock, in particular for cycles, has a bolt 1 to lie between forks 6,7 with a cylinder lock 2 at least partly lying in a recess 8. The lock stator has a pin 11 passing through the bolt 1 to engage a longitudinal slot in a fixed housing 4 to prevent rotation of the stator in the bolt recess. A locking bolt 17, projects from the lock rotor through the stator and a closed slot in bolt 1, into an annular groove 18 in housing 4. Use of the correct key to turn the lock rotor aligns locking bolt 17 with the groove accommodating pin 11 so that the bolt 1 maybe withdrawn from housing 4. The length of bolt 1 may be adjusted by means of screw 22. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A Plug-in Lock The invention relates to a plug-in lock having a lock cylinder withdrawable from a lock reception housing in the unlocked position, a guard bolt coaxially secured on the cylinder housing and a radial fastening part secured to the cylinder core, which part is limitedly movable in an opening, especially a slot, of the cylinder housing, protrudes beyond the outer wall of the cylinder housing and secures the lock in the lock reception housing against axial displacement in the guard position.
In known plug-in locks (Ger. Ut. Mod.
1 ,672,9 1 5) the guard part which is conducted through the wheel aperture (the spokes) for blocking consists of a steel bolt which is pushed with one end into an aperture of the cylinder housing of the cylinder lock and secured therein.
In the axial direction this results in two parts aligned with one another which are accommodated by housings formed on both sides of the wheel on the vehicle frame. In the lock cylinder, which according to its assembly and functions is preferably produced from brass, by reason of price the external dimensions are kept small. Since the steel bolt inserted into the cylinder housing must be suitable in its diameter, this has the result that the load capacity of these securing devices is very limited. Moreover the loadings of the steel bolt are necessarily transmitted to its point of connection in the cylinder housing and to the part which blocks the cylinder lock against axial displacement in the lock reception housing, which part is in operative connection with the rotatable cylinder core. These embodiments offer only slight protection against loads such as exist in the case of violent attack.
This appears especially clearly in those vehicles which are equipped with cast wheels and the spokes of which have a very large cross-section.
The invention is based upon the problem of producing a securing device of the initially stated kind which, with simple assembly, offers a maximum security against unauthorized unlocking and can be used in the same embodiment for vehicles of different orders of size and different spoke thicknesses.
According to the invention this problem is solved in that the cylinder housing lies at least partially in an axial aperture of the guard bolt, in that the guard bolt has in the region of its aperture an opening, especially of slot form, for the radial fastening part, and in that the fastening part protrudes beyond the outer wall of the guard bolt.
The embodiment according to the invention advantageously achieves the object that the guard bolt is mounted, in its entire longitudinal extent, in the lock reception housings on the vehicle frame and thus takes up the loading under application of violence without any effect upon the cylinder lock. In the case of favourably priced small external dimensions of the cylinder lock the guard bolt cross-section can be made, independently thereof, as large as required by the stresses.
The part of the cylinder housing which accommodates the housing pins and pin springs and penetrates and protrudes beyond the circumferential surface of the guard bolt secures the cylinder lock in the guard bolt and the guard bolt in the lock reception housing against rotation.
The recess in the guard bolt, closed on all sides and extending in the circumferential direction, which recess is allocated to the fastening part coupled with the rotatable core of the cylinder lock, achieves the object that the fastening part when fitted is supported additionally in the axial direction of the guard bolt by the marginal limitation of the recess and thus can take up far greater stresses against axial displacement than the known embodiments where the fastening part is loaded directly on the circumferential surface of the cylinder housing, which is manufactured from brass. Moreover this recess and the fastening part arrest the cylinder lock in the guard bolt itself. The formation of the guard bolt with equal external dimensions over its entire longitudinal extent has a favourabieinfluence upon the price of production and fitting of the lock reception housing on the frame, because the toleranceprone stepped bores of the known embodiments are not necessary. Moreover the fastening part acts additionally as securing means between guard bolt and lock cylinder.
An example of embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawing, wherein:- Figure 1 shows a lateral elevation of the plugin lock with reception housing on the vehicle in section, in the locked position, Figure 2 shows a front view of the plug-in bolt according to Figure 1, Figure 3 shows a cross-section along the line I-I in Figure 1, and Figure 4 shows a lateral elevation of a partial zone of the guard bolt according to Figure 1, without the cylinder lock.
The plug-in lock comprises a guard bolt (locking bar) 1 of steel into which a cylinder lock is inserted and which is conducted for blocking through an aperture (the spokes) of the wheel of a bicycle and received by the lock reception housings 4 and 5 which are fixed on the vehicle frame parts 6 and 7. To accommodate the lock cylinder 2 the guard bolt 1 has a pot-shaped coaxial opening 8 corresponding to the dimensions of the lock cylinder 2 and the external dimensions of the cylinder housing 15, a recess 9 of slot form closed on all sides and extending in the circumferential direction and a milled recess 10 open to the end face of the guard bolt. Thus the guard bolt encloses the lock cylinder and thus the cylinder housing over its entire (axial) length.
To receive the housing pins and pin springs the cylinder housing 1 5 comprises a spline-shaped radial widening (bit) 11 which in shape-engaging manner penetrates the milled recess 10 of the guard bolt 1 and is accommodated with a part protruding from the circumferential surface of the guard bolt by a groove 12 of the reception housing 4 which extends with the longitudinal axis of the guard bar. Due to this arrangement the lock cylinder 2 and at the same time the guard bolt 1 are secured against rotation in the lock reception housing 4. A radial fastening part (guard part) 14 is inserted firmly into the cylider core and pivotable therewith. The fastening part 14 penetrates a recess 1 6 of slot form extending in the circumferential direction of the cylinder housing 1 5 and its outer part 1 7 penetrates a recess 9 of slot form of the guard bolt 1 , the dimensions of which in the circumferential direction correspond to the path of rotation of the fastening part 14, 1 7 necessary for lock actuation by means of a key, and the side faces 9' and 9" of which closely adjoin the fastening part 14, 1 7.
The part 1 7 of the fastening part 14 protruding beyond the outer circumferential surface of the guard bolt 1 extends into a radial extension 1 8 of groove form of the lock reception housing 4 and thus secures the guard bolt 1 against axial displacement out of the locking position. The end 1 9 of the guard bolt 1 opposite to the cylinder lock is accommodated in shape-locking manner by a pot-shaped aperture 20 of the lock reception housing 5, and has a screw 22 which is stiff in rotation due to the use of "Keil-Stopp" or the like, which screw comes to abut with its head 23 directly on the bottom 21 of the aperture 20 in the lock reception housing 5 and can be rotated to compensate for different dimensions and tolerances between the lock reception housings 4 and 5.Impacts upon the cylinder lock end of the guard bolt thus have no effect upon the fastening part 14, 17.
To unlock the lock from the blocking position as shown in Figure 1, the fastening part 14, 17 is pivoted into the region of the groove 12 of the lock reception housing 4 in coincidence with the extension 11 of the cylinder housing 1 5 by rotation of the cylinder core 13 by means of the key. The guard bolt can now be withdrawn from the housings 4 and 5 and accommodated in known manner in a tubular case or the like fitted on the vehicle.
To block the vehicle wheel the fastening part 14, 1 7 is pivoted into coincidence with the extension 11 of the cylinder housing 1 5 and the guard bolt is introduced through the wheel aperture (the spokes) into the lock reception housings 4 and 5 until the fastening part 14, 1 7 comes to abut on the surface 1 8' of the groove 1 8 in the lock reception housing 4. Then the fastening part 14, 1 7 is pivoted into the groove 1 8 and the key is withdrawn. The groove 1 8 with its surface 18' at the same time defines the axial extent of the groove 12 in the lock reception housing 4. Thus the setting of a separate stop can be omitted.
