Abstract

In the injection moulding of one- piece high heeled soles, particularly for women's shoes, a finishing layer (1), e.g. of hide, imitation leather wood or plastics, is positioned in the mould and is provided with an inner sheath (2) or supporting layer to improve the anchorage to the underlying plastics material. Alternatively or additionally the edges of the finishing layer at the forward part of the heel may be provided with inturned ribs. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION High-heeled soles The present invention relates to methods for making high-heeled soles for women's shoes, and to the high-heeled soles obtained thereby.
It is known to produce single piece high-heeled soles by injection moulding thermo-plastics materials in a mould formed by several complementary portions defining therebetween the heel and sole cavities.
This method is effective to provide a single piece high-heeled sole, by a single operation, in which both the sole and a heel rigid therewith are formed.
For making a high heeled sole, polyvinylchloride, ABS resins, polystyrene, polyethylene, poiypropylene, polyesters and like materials may be used.
It is also known, for reinforcing the high-heeled sole, to incorporate, prior to the injection of the thermoplastics material, a reinforcing core in the heel and a stiffening element in the sole, extending from the heel top to the overall front portion of the sole itself. Such a reinforcing core and stiffening member may be made of wood, metal (such as aluminium and light alloys), premoulded plastics material, and the like.
It is moreover known to coat, directly in the making step, the outside surface of the heel by means of hide, imitation leather, wood, plastics laminate and the like, thereby providing a completely finished high-heeled sole, which does not need further finishing operations. To this end, in the mould portion provided for forming the heel, there is inserted, prior to the moulding operation,'a coating material portion effective to cover the heel laterally, rearwardly and optionally forwardly.
Then, thermoplastics material is then injected into the mould through a hole accurately located above the heel, in order to press the coating sheets against the inner surface of the mould, in such a way as to cause said coating sheets to adhere to the mould inner walls, thereby preventing said thermoplastics material from exiting therefrom.
The high-heeled sole, as obtained according to the hereinabove described methods, has well established economic and aesthetic advantages, and has found a large acceptance in the market.
However a drawback of these known highheeled soles, as produced by the hereinabove described methods, is that, in said soles, the side and rear coating of the heel has a tendency to become detached after a long period of use of the shoe, especially at the side edges, near to the corners.
The object of the present invention is to obviate the hereinabove stated drawback.
More specifically, the object of the present invention is to provide such a method effective to improve the adhesion of the sheet material forming the outside, side and rear heel coating, to the thermoplastics material forming said heel.
It has been found, and this forms the subjectmatter of the present invention, that in the method for making single piece high-heeled soles, for women's shoes, by injection moulding thermoplastics material in a mould formed by complementary portions defining therebetween said heel and sole cavities, wherein into said heel cavity, prior to the injection of the said thermoplastics material, a sheet material is inserted for laterally, rearwardly and optionally -forwardly covering the heel, an improved adhesion of said sheet material to the thermoplastics material forming the heel is obtained by providing said coating sheet material with suitable anchoring elements effective to anchor said sheet material to said heel-forming thermoplastics material.
Said anchoring elements may consist of a sheath (or supporting element) of a material effective to adhere and fix to the heel-forming thermoplastics material, and coating the overall inside surface of said sheet material, provided for contacting the heel. Alternatively, they may be formed by an edging (or strip) element projecting from the inner surface and along each of the side vertical edges of said coating sheet material, and being embedded in said heel-forming thermoplastics material, during the making thereof.Alternatively, said sheet material may be simultaneously provided with a sheath (or supporting) element on the surface thereof provided for contacting the heel, and with an edging element (or strip) projecting from the inner surface, along each of the side vertical edges thereof. Said projecting edging or strip element can be formed by the sheath or supporting element covering the sheet material. Said edging element may uninterruptedly extend all along the length of said sheet material side vertical edges, or it may be discontinuous, that is formed by a plurality of spaced projecting portions.
As said sheath or support element, for supporting said coating sheath material, cloth, non-woven fabric, felt, a thermoplastics material sheet and the like may be used.
For making the single piece high-heeled sole any known method may be used, provided that the coating sheet material has an anchoring element according to the invention. More specifically, particularly effective are the making methods described in the Patent Applications No.
33257/78 (Publication No. 2008925) and No.
39080/78 (Publication No. 2019766).
In order to better understand the functional and structural characteristics of the invention the heel coating sheet material used in the improved method according to the invention will be hereinafter described with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawing illustrating some exemplary and not limitative preferred embodiments of said sheet material, and wherein:: Figure 1 illustrates a perspective side view of an exemplary embodiment of the high-heeled sole as obtained by the improved method according to the present invention; Figure 2 illustrates a side perspective view of the heel side and rear coating element, as provided with an inner sheath; Figure 3 is a perspective view as taken from the inside-ofthe heel side and rear coating element, and provided with projectin-g-edges, located at the side vertical edges.
Referring specifically to the figures, in order to renderthe heel side and rear coating element 1 more adherent-to the heel-forming thermoplastics material, particularly at the vertical edges 1 ' and upper corners 1 ir thereof, it is- provided, on theinside surface, with a sheath 2, as is shown: in Figure 2, or with projecting edges 3 at each side vertical edge 1', as is shown- in- Figure 3, or with a sheath 2 provided with edges or other projecting: elements 3.
Said projecting edges 3 are embedded in the heel-forming thermoplastics material I during moulding of the heei.
The sheath 2 may be for instance of cloth, textile fabric, non-woven fabric, felt or a suitable sheet thermoplastic material.
From the above description and the observation of the figures of the accompanying: drawling, are self evident the carrying out facility of the instant method, and the great practical, economical and functional advantages characterizing the high heeled sole, particularly for women's shoes, contained by said method.
Obviously, in practising the improved method for making high heeled soles for women's shoes, according to the present invention; various variations and modifications may be made falling within the invention's inventive concept and without departing from the scope thereof.
