Abstract

204,610. Smith, H. H., and Brettell, G. P. Dec. 22, 1922. Pivoting adjustments.-The tubular arms 1 of a folding stay, such as for the collapsable hood of a perambulator, are held in an adjusted position by a pawl 8 on one member of the joint engaging ratchet-teeth 9 or stops on the other member of the joint, the joint consisting of plate members 6 each provided with an extension 6<a> engaging the tubular arms 1, and disc members 5 mounted on a pivot pin 4 between the outer knuckle-joint plates 2 of the tubular arms. The plate members 6 are cranked or off-set from the disc members 5 so as to be in the same plane for the engagement of the pawl 8 on one member with the teeth 9 on the other member. The portion of the plate member having ratchet-teeth projects through a slot 9 of the tubular arm 1, as shown. Instead of forming the plates 6 as offset members from the discs 5, as shown in Fig. 4, a single disc 5 on one of the members 6 may be disposed on the pivot 4 between a pair of plates on the other member 6.
