A circular loom has shuttles 40 with convex guide roller 43 which run in concave tracks 42 in the sley 3. The warp ends may be cooled and wetted by spray from a tube 22 which may form part of the reed cap. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A Loom
The present invention relates to a circular loom.
In such looms, rotating shuttles produce considerable forces which are difficult to contol, as well as uncertainties in the guidance of the shuttles.
According to the present invention there is provided a loom comprising a circular sley provided with a concentric annular concavity and a plurality of shuttles each provided with a roller having a convex circumference adapted to run in the concavity.
The sley may be provided with a further concentric annular concavity spaced axially of the sley from the first mentioned concavity and each shuttle is provided with further such rollers, a respective pair of the rollers being adapted to run in each of the two concavities.
The axis of rotation of each roller may be perpendicular to the axis of the sley.
The axis of rotation of each roller may be inclined obliquely to the axis of the sley and the axes of one of the pair of the rollers are inclined towards the axis of the respective other pair of the rollers.
Each shuttle may be provided with at least one further roller, the rollers each being disposed at a laterally inner region of the shuttle, being adapted to run in the concavity and having an axis of rotation parallel to the axis of the sley.
The loom may comprise a device for at least one of cooling and wetting warp threads during operation of the loom.
The sley may comprise two axially spaced frame members in use disposed one above the other and the device may comprise a spray tube at least partially encircling the upper frame member and communicating with a spray liquid recirculation system.
The sley may comprise two axially spaced frame members in use disposed one above the other and the device may comprise a spray duct defined in the upper frame member and communicating with a spray liquid recirculating system.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be more particularly described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 shows in side elevation a diagrammatic view of a circular loom,
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the loom shown in
Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of a circular sley of the loom shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and a plurality of rotatable shuttles,
Fig. 4 shows a perspective view to a larger scale of a part of a circular sley and a shuttle, and
Figs. 5 and 6 each show in cross-section a variant of the sley and a cooling and/or wetting mechanism.
The circular loom shown in Figs. 1 and 2 rests on a base 1, on which is supported a circular frame carrier 2, which carries a circular sley 3, an on/off switch 4 for the loom and frame portions 5 for supporting partial shafts 6 and 7. The partial shafts 6 and 7 are arranged in a circular manner and in two rows around a main shaft 8 of the loom, forming outer partial shafts 6 and inner partial shafts 7. A support 9 for a cloth draw-off mechanism is also supported on the base 1, said mechanism comprising inter alia a drive 10 for cloth removal, as well as cloth-draw-off rollers 11 and 12 and a cloth bale 13. Draw-in rollers 1 5 for the warp threads are shown on the left-hand side and a draw-in roller 1 6 for the warp threads is shown on the right-hand side. Overtravel rollers for the warp ties are indicated by numeral 1 7.
Fig. 3 shows a plurality of shuttles 40 which rotate in the circular sley 3 when the loom is operating.
Fig. 4 shows that the sley 3 comprises a circular upper frame 101 and a lower frame 102 spaced from the frame 101 by vertical sley bars 102. In the inside edge area, the upper frame 101 and lower frame 102 each comprises a respective guide groove 41 or 42 having a concave surface.
As can be seen in Fig. 4, rollers 45 of the shuttle 40 run in the guide grooves 41 and 42.
Fig. 5 shows in section an embodiment in which the roller axes are aligned at right angles to the sley bars 103. Fig. 5 also shows that the rolling surfaces of rollers 45 are convex and corresponding to the surface of the guide grooves 41 and 42. The course of the warp threads 29 is indicted by the broken lines.
These measures make it possible to guide the shuttle in both directions radially of the circular sley.
Fig. 6 shows an embodiment in which the rollers 45 on shuttle 40 are so arranged that the upper roller axes are inclined in the opposite direction to the lower rollers and with the sley bars 103 form an angle other than 900.
It is also possible to provide on laterally inner portions of the shuttle at least two rollers each having its axis parallel to the sley bars. The rollers by their convex rolling surfaces run in a guide groove (not shown) formed by correspondingly shaping the sley bars. In the rest position, the shuttle is supported on the lower frame.
As is apparent from Figs. 4, 5 and 6, it is also possible to provide a cooling and/or wetting mechanism for the arrangement. As shown in
Figs. 4 and 6, such a mechanism comprises a spray tube 22 provided with a plurality of nozzles 23 directed towards the centre of the sley. The spray tube 22 envelopes the circular sley 3 in the vicinity of upper frame 101 and as shown in Fig.
6, serves to wet the warp threads 29. The sprayed liquid is collected in a trough 30 and is returned to the spray tube 22 by means of a recirculation system comprising a circulation pump 60 and a rising main 27.
Fig. 5 shows a variant of the cooling and/or wetting mechanism in which the rising main 27 does not lead to a spray tube, but issues into a ring main 111 in the upper frame 101, the wetting and/or cooling medium reaching the warp threads 29 by means of a plurality of bores 112.
