Abstract

'The Vehicle Brake Lock' consists of the introduction into any part of the hydraulic brake line or cylinders of a non-return valve. This valve will allow the brakes to be applied but not released and so therefore rendering the vehicle immobile. The invention can be used as an anti-theft device or as an alternative to the hand brake. Any number of the vehicle wheels can be locked depending on where the valve is situated in the system. The valve would be released by use of an electrical solenoid but mechanical means of keeping the valve open can be used. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Vehicle brake lock The invention is the introduction of a nonreturn valve into the hydraulic braking system of a vehicle.
This non-return valve will allow the brakes or brake to be applied but not released. The valve would then be opened using an electrical solenoid when locking device is not required.
The purpose of the vehicle brake lock is to immobilize the vehicle to prevent theft or in the case of two switches to solenoid being used an alternative to the vehicle hand brake.
Operation of the system as an anti-theft device is to switch off electrical solenoid using consealed switch when vehicle is parked and pumping brakes until fully on. Brakes will now remain locked until solenoid is re-activiated preventing removal of vehicle by unauthorised personnel.
To use as an alternative to the hand brake in traffic two switches in the same circuit should be used. One switch should be concealed and the other dash mounted within easy reach of driver. With normal foot brake applied solenoid should be switched off to introduce the non-return valve and allow the brake system to remain under pressure without brake foot pedal being depressed.
When vehicle is to move off solenoid should be re-activated releasing the pressure within the braking system.
The non-return valve can be mounted anywhere in the braking system depending on how many wheels are required to be locked when system is in operation.
1. The Vehicle Brake Lock immobilizes the vehicle by locking the hydraulic brakes on one or more wheels by incorporating in the brake line or cylinders a non-return valve that allows pressure to remain within the system without the application of a pedal or lever.
2. 'The Vehicle Brake Lock as claimed in 1' will act as an anti-theft device by locking one or more wheels and preventing movement of vehicle by unauthorised personnel.
3. 'The Vehicle Brake Lock as claimed in 1' will act in place of a hand brake to prevent movement of vehicle when parked or in stationary traffic or at any road hazzard.
