Abstract

203,421. Barbour, T., and Suffern, W. S. June 15, 1922. Braiding-machines.-Relates to a machine for plaiting cords &c. in which two sets of yarns mounted on two flyers or cages rotating in opposite directions are plaited together by means of cam grooves and switches. The two sets of bobbins A<1>, C<1> are mounted on studs a<3>, c<3> of the discs a<1>, C, which rotate in opposite directions. Pivoted on the studs a<3> are crescent shaped switches D which deflect tubes c<6> carrying the yarns of the set C<1> alternately to the inside and the outside of the studs a<3>. The tubes c<6> are carried on arms c<8> pivoted on axles c<2> on which arms c<4> carrying the studs c<3> are also pivoted. The tubes c<6> project through and are guided by cam slots c<10> formed in the disc a<1>. The switches are arranged in pairs in different planes and their movements are limited by a rubber covered drum d<1> which acts as a stop. The bobbins are provided with drag devices consisting of spring fingers the extension of which may be regulated.
