Abstract

203,418. Bishop, E. L. June 14, 1922. Apparatus for covering boxes. An adjustable box form particularly suitable for covering or banding comprises four corner elements 1 - - 4 slidable on strips or bars 5 - - 8 disposed in rectangular relationship and directly connecting adjacent elements, the elements being fixed in any adjusted position by two diagonally-disposed and pivotal cross links 9, 10 the limbs of which are slotted to engage studs 11 on the corner elements. The bars 5 - - 8 may be slotted to engage studs 21 on the corner elements and the studs 11, 21 are provided with tightening-means. The cross links are secured at the centre by a nut 15 engaging a pin 17 and one link rigidly supports a carrier member 16 adapted' to be attached to the rotary spindle of the machine. Each corner element may consist of sheet metal vertical side and end walls and a cast metal web 19, the cross-links being mounted on the webs and the strips or bars being of channel section engaging grooves or channels in the webs; the side and end walls of the elements have rolled edges 20. In a modification particularly suitable for banding a lid, the corner elements are closed at the rear to form a surface which supports the top of the lid, a cylindrical block mounted upon the pin 17 supporting the centre of the lid when the form is extended. Each of the links of the crossstructure may be in two parts having a sliding connection, each outer part having a pivotal connection with a corner element.
