Name and number plates.-An illuminated sign, show-card, facia, or the like consists of a paper, cardboard, metal. celluloid, fabric, wood, or other ground with letters c, e or designs partly cut out, bent forwards or backwards, and illuminated from behind, by artificial light or daylight, so that the letters appear in shadow on a ground illuminated by reflexion from the back of the letters &c., or vice versa. Castings or stampings may be used. The cut-out letters &c. may be removed and replaced by letters &c. cut from other material and attached to the ground.
