Abstract

A holder 11 for a stanchion 12 on the side edge of a load carrying platform 10 of a truck has said stanchion 12 locked to the holder 11 by at least one wedge-shaped locking member. The purpose of the invention is to provide a narrow but rigid holder 11 , which without increase in width, depth or length can be attached to the side edge of the platform. The new holder 11 comprises a mounting plate 13, which at one end is provided with a projecting hook 14 and at its opposite end is provided with upstanding longitudinal side-gables 15, at the free upper edges of which are arranged flanges 17 which are inclined relative to the mounting plate, said flanges 17 cooperating with wedge-shaped locking members 25 of the stanchion 12. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A holder for a stanchion on a load-carrying platform of a truck The present invention refers to a holder for a stanchion on a load-carrying platform of a truck, the stanchion being locked to said holder by means of at least one wedge-shaped locking member cooperating with a corresponding locking means attached at the holder.
The connection of stanchions to the side edges of a load carrying platform of a truck has to be made by use of a locking means arranged at the platform edge and extending into the stanchion and preferably by means of a hook which, at the attachment of the stanchion, supports the stanchion and heips to guide the locking means into engagement with the stanchion. The holder has also to serve as a lateral guide for the stanchion for keeping it non-displaceably fixed in the lateral direction. The stanchion has to be narrow and to have a small depth and the connection of the holder for the stanchion to the edge profile of the platform has to be made without increasing the width, depth or lengh of the holder. These demands have hitherto been fulfilled only to a limited extent.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a holder, for a stanchion, which is simple and cheap to manufacture and to instal, and which, without increasing its width, depth or length, is effectively fixedly attachable to a plane frame, and which in itself is only small in height and weight, yet at the same achieves a good strength in the lateral direction and a very rigid construction.
This purpose is achieved by the fact that the holder comprises a mounting plate which, at its lower end portion, is designed with a hook projecting from the plate and at its opposite upper end portion is provided with longitudinal side gables extending from the side edges of the plate, each of the side gables being provided with a flange at its free longitudinal side edges, said flanges being inclined relative to the mounting plate.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a fragmentary front view of the lower portion of a stanchion attached to a holder according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line Il-Il of Fig.
1; Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the holder of the arrangement of Figs. 1 and 2; Figs. 4 and 5 are perspective views of two further embodiments of the holder; Fig. 6 is a perspective view of yet a further embodiment of the holder; and Fig. 7 is a section taken on the line VIl-VIl of Fig. 6.
Throughout the various figures of the drawings, similar reference numerals have been allocated to similar parts.
In the drawings the reference numeral 10 denotes a side edge profile of a load-carrying platform of a truck or the like, the reference numeral 11 denotes a holder for a stanchion or upright and the reference numeral 1 2 denotes the lower portion of a stanchion, which is described in more detail in the specification of Swedish Patent No. 320275.
The holder 1 1 according to the Figs. 1 to 3 comprises a mounting plate 13 which, at its lower end, is designed with a hook 14 and at its upper end is designed with side gables 1 5 projecting from the plate 1 3 and connected with the plate by weld joints 1 6. The free upper edges of the gables 1 5 are bent outwards through approximately 900, so that flanges 1 7 facing away from each other are formed. The upper edges of the gables 1 5 are inclined relative to the mounting plate 1 3 in the direction towards the hook 14 and the two flanges 1 7 have the same inclination. An end gable 1 8 is arranged between the side gables 1 5.
An oblong hole 19 is provided in the mounting plate 1 3 and between the upper end of the mounting plate 13 and the end gable 1 8 there is a free space 20 which, together with the opening 19, is intended for the application of weld joints when the holder 11 is to be attached to the side profile 10 of the platform. By applying the weld joints inside the outer contour of the holder 11, the outer limiting surface thereof can form lateral supports for the stanchion 12. On the rear side of the stanchion 12 there is an opening the shape of which corresponds to the outer contour of the holder 11.
The stanchion 12 is provided, in known manner with links 24 which, by means of handles (not shown), can be displaced in the longitudinal direction of the stanchion 12 against the action of compression springs (not shown). The links 24 cooperate with faucets at the upper portion of the stanchion 12, which can engage with staples at the sideboards of the platform. Arranged at each of the lower ends of the links 23 is a wedge 25 which is guided between guides 26, said wedges 25 cooperating with the flanges 1 7 of the holder 11 in the locking position of the stanchion 12, as is shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Fixed at the lower end of the stanchion 12 is a round bar 27 acting as a bearing journal in the hook 14, which is designed as a bearing cup.
The holder can be designed in many different ways and two embodiments are shown in Figs. 4 and 5. The holder 11 according to Fig. 4 differs from that of Fig. 3 by the fact that the mounting plate 1 3 extends to the end gable 1 8 and the oblong hole 19 is correspondingly extended. The side gables 1 5 are bent upwards from the mounting plate 13 as well as the end gable 18, which is connected by welds 28 with the side gables. In the embodiments according to Figs. 3 and 4, the flanges 1 7, which cooperate with the wedges 25 of the stanchion, are directed outwards from the mounting plate 13, while in the embodiment of Fig. 5 the flanges 1 7 are directed inwards and arranged to cooperate with one or two wedges inserted in the space between the side gables 1 5.
In Figs. 6 and 7 a further embodiment of the holder 11 is shown, wherein the flanges 1 7 consist of portions pressed out from the side gables 15. A respective weld 29 is applied in the joint between the pressed portion and the rest of the side gable for strengthening purposes.
The invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiments and variations are possible within the scope of the following claims.
