Abstract

202,693. Coats, Ltd., J. & P., and Sutton, W. H. April 28, 1922. Winding-machines.-Segmental plates 1<a>, Fig. 2, forming a clearance sleeve 1 are inserted between stockings 6, 9 on the spindle of a cheese-winder, and are withdrawn after the cheese is wound, so that the pressure on the inner core of the cheese is reduced and dyeing is facilitated. The spindle comprises an expanding sleeve 2 secured by a nut 4, and the inner stocking is carried by a helical spring 5. Spring rings 7 are passed over the inner stocking to a position near the middle, to facilitate the fitting of the segments in position, and are afterwards moved to the ends, as shown. The segments are provided with slots 8 to facilitate withdrawal, or alternate segments may be soldered to end flanges for this purpose. As shown in Fig. 4, flanges 1<e> which carry the segments, are mounted on a steel cantre 1f, the spring centre and inner stocking being passed inside the sleeve.
