Description

SPECIFICATION Display stand The invention relates to a display stand.
German Patent Specification 1 284596 describes display stands for advertising purposes, which consist of pairs of walls arranged at right-angles to each other, which are connected at their corners solely by inserted corner joints, without additional means. The corner joints provided in this case are moulded from synthetic material and contain at least two slots, in which the plate-like walls generally consisting of crystal glass, are inserted. However, in this case, it is necessary for the plates provided for insertion in the corner joints to have narrow tolerances, because the full depth of the plates must fit in the recessed slots in the corner joints. This necessitates a considerable amount of work, because the plates must be ground over their entire surface to such an extent that they acquire the thickness having close tolerances. In this case, for the assembly of a display stand, it is not possible to use walls other than those adapted to the slot width of the corner joints. In these knows display stands, a further drawback consists in that a gap of approximately 1 cm remains between two adjacent wall or side plates. There is thus danger that the goods displayed on the stand become dusty and dirty. Furthermore, flat objects displayed may fall through the gap or be removed by a theif from the otherwise closed prismatic or cubic inner space of the display stand.
The object of the invention is to provide an arrangement with which the above-described drawbacks are avoided. Furthermore, it should be possible to facilitate a stable assembly when using wall sections not having close tolerances. According to the invention, therefore, there is provided a display stand having at least three and possibly five or more side walls, in particuiar plate-like walls, arranged respectively in pairs at right-angles to each other, which bound a prismatic or cubic inner space, and corner joints which comprises at least two slots for connecting two side walls and which are located at corners of the stand as defined by edges of the pairs of side walls, characterised in that between corner joints, two directly adjacent edge strips are inserted by pins provided on the end faces thereof, and that along an edge thereof each edge strip has a groove for a tongue formed on an edge of the adjoining side wall, the thickness of which tongue is less than the overall thickness of the wall. Consequently in an advantageous manner, it is possible to insert at least three, preferably four or five walls on three of their edge faces respectively in three edge strips. A particularly stable arrangement results if, and in accordance with, a further embodiment of the invention, four edge strips are respectively located on at least three of the walls forming the side faces, which edge strips form a closed rectangular frame together with their associated corner joints.Advantageously, the edge strips may have a rounded edge on those oftheir longitudinal edges remote from the longitudinal edge containing the groove, in which case the cross section of the rounded edge corresponds to at least a quarter of a circle, the radius of which is at least approximately half the depth of the edge strips. It is thus ensured that fine-meshed materials above all, such hosiery or the like, cannot be damaged when placed on the display stands or removed therefrom. The invention will now be described further by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows one form of a display stand according to the invention in a sectioned perspective view; Figure 2 shows one of the four corner joints of the stand according to figure 1, in perspective view; Figure 3 shows one of the edge strips of the stand according to figure 1, likewise in perspective view; and Figure 4 shows a modified embodiment of the edge strip, looking in the direction of its end face.
The display stand illustrated is intended for the display of goods (not shown) such as hosiery, fine-meshed fabrics and the like. It has three side walls, 1, 2 and 3 and a base 4, arranged at right-angles to each other in the position of utilisation illustrated. On the top surface, a top section which can be inserted has been omitted for the sake of clarity of the drawings.
The display stand according to the drawing represents only the simplest embodiment, because it encloses only a single prismatic or cubic inner space.
However, it is quite possible to achieve a shelf-like construction by arranging multiple units of the basic shape illustrated side-by-side or piling them one above the other. The three side parts 1,2,3 as well as the base part 4 may consist of any strong plates, which are made from synthetic material, glass or wood and are held together by eight corner joints, namely by four rear corner joints 5,6,78 and four front corner joints.
9, 10, 11, 12, which are located on the open front side of the stand.
Like the upper front left-hand corner joint 9 illustrated in detail in figure 2, each of the corner joints comprises two arms 13 and 14 of equal length.
Each of the arms contains a slot 15, 16. Each of the slots is open on the common end face 17 of the two arms 13 and 14 and likewise on each of the end faces 18, of each ofthetwo arms 13 and 14.
Two edge strips 21 and 22 are inserted by their pins 23 (shown in figure 3) in pairs in each individual arm of the corner joint 9. In figure 1, the upper edge strip 22 located on the front open end face of the stand leads to the right-hand edge strip 24 leading to the right-hand lower corner joint 11 is also inserted.
In a similar manner, the second arm 14 of the corner joint 9, pointing downwards, is connected by way of an edge strip 25 to the left-hand lower corner joint 12. Finally, on the base, a further edge strip 26 is inserted between the two lower corner joints 11 and 12. The edge strips 22, 24, 25 and 26 form a vertical frame in the position of utilisation, which is closed and therefore very stable. In a similar manner, the edge strip 21, which is inserted by its other end in the rear corner joint 5, forms a horizontal frame together with the latter and with two further edge strips 27 and 28 and the edge strip 22.
In a similar manner, two horizontal edge strips 29 and 30 are provided on the right-hand side face, which edge strips together with a vertical edge strip 31 between the two rear corner joints 6 and 7 and together with the front vertical edge strip 24, likewise form a stable frame.
In detail, the edge strips, of which only the left-hand upper edge strip 21 with its end section is shown in perspective view in figure 3, contain a longitudinal groove 33 in ther narrow longitudinal side designated by the reference numeral 32, which groove 33 extends over the entire length of the edge strip and is located symmetrically with respect to the upper and lower sides of the edge strip npt bearing a reference numeral. In figure 1,the longitudinal groove of the lower edge strip 26 is designated by the reference numeral 34. Engaging in the latter is a tongue 35, which is formed, for example cut, on the front edge face of the base plate 4 and provides a rigid slide-in connection to the edge strip 26.In the embodiment illustrated, it is provided that the two vertical side walls 1 and 3 have a peripheral tongue (not shown) on all edge faces and are inserted by these tongues in the associated grooves 33 in the edge strips. In this way, high stability of the display stand is achieved solely by these slide-in connections and without additional connecting means.
In the embodiment illustrated, all the edge strips used are identical and are constructed in the manner illustrated in figure 3. The connecting pins 23 on the end faces of the edge strips have a bevelled face 37 extending at an angle of 45 , which makes it possible to insert two edge strips extending at right-angles to each other, in one and the same slot 15 or 16 in a connecting arm 13, 14, without a gap or appreciable separating line occuring between the end faces of the edge strips and the end faces of the arms.
In the manner illustrated in figure 3, on their narrow longitudinal side remote from the longitudinal groove 33, the edge strips 21,22 and 24-31 have a rounded edge 38, the radius of which is approximately halfthe depth D of the edge strip. By means of this rounded edge, delicate materials, such as for example fine-meshed fabrics, hosiery or the like placed on the display stand, are prevented from being damaged when removed from the stand. In a similar manner, the arms 13, 14 of the individual corner joints are provided with rounded edges 39, 40,41 on their longitudinal sides remote from the slots 15,16 and intheir common connecting area.
Also provided in the vicinity of the connecting area of the two arms is a recess 42 of approximately square cross section, by which it ensured that there is constant distribution of material over the width and length of the arms and that a largely identical shrinkage aliowance is achieved.
In the case of the second embodiment of an edge strip 45 illustrated in figure 4, in the direction of the end face, the rounded edge designated by the reference numeral 46, on the longitudinal edge, extends solely over approximately a quarter of a circle. Adjoining this rounded edge is a bevelled face 47, by which two edge strips extending parallel to each other can abut one against the other with a good sealing action.
