Abstract

Display racks comprise connectors holding the corners of plates of glass. A connector 10 comprises a base 13 having twelve pairs of walls 11, 12 projecting from the base. High and low ribs 31, 32 project from inner faces 11a, 12a of the walls into spaces 15 between them. The different heights of the ribs makes it possible to connect plates of varying thickness. The outer edges of the walls are rounded to prevent their catching on textile materials. <IMAGE>

SPECIFICATION Connectors for plates
DESCRIPTION: The invention relates to connectors for holding the corners of plates, for example glass plates making up a display rack.
A connector according to the invention comprises a base, a number of pairs of walls projecting from the base, and high and low ribs projecting from a face of each wall towards the other wall of the pair for securing a corner of a plate between the tops of the ribs.
The different heights of the ribs makes it possible to connect plates of varying thickness. The difference may be about 0.1 mm; a thick plate may share the tops of the ribs so that they provide a firm hold. The walls preferably have rounded outer edges to prevent their catching textile materials.
DRAWINGS Figure 1 is a perspective view of a connector according to the invention; Figure 2 is a perspective view of a display rack comprising various connectors according to the invention; and Figures 3 and 4 are each a section through a pair of walls in the connector of Fig. 1 showing the holding of thin and thick plates respectively.
With particular reference to Fig. 1, a connector 10 comprises a base 1 3 with a number of pairs of walls 11, 1 2 projecting from the base 1 3 at right angles to each other. The pairs of walls, 11, 1 2 respectively have inner faces 11 a, 1 2a defining a space 1 5 between the walls. The outer edges of the walls 11, 1 2 have rounded edges to prevent their catching on knitted, woven or leather materials.
Figs. 3 and 4 show high and low ribs 31, 32 respectively projecting across the space and holding a thin and a thick plate 20, 21 respectively. The thick plate 21 shares the tops of the high ribs 31 on introduction between the walls. The high ribs 31 and low ribs 32 alternate on the inner faces of the walls 11, 12. The high ribs -are 0.4 mm high, and the low ribs 0.3 mm, so the connector can tolerate a variation of about 0.1 or 0.2 mm in the thickness of a 5 mm thick glass plate.
Fig. 2 shows a connector according to Fig.
1 indicated by an arrow A at a central position. This connector has twelve pairs of walls, each for holding a different glass plate. It can be seen that the display rack also comprises connectors having two, three, four five and eight pairs of walls for holding corresponding numbers of glass plates at different parts of the structure.
CLAIMS: 1. A connector for holding the corners of plates comprising a base, a number of pairs of walls projecting from the base, and high and low ribs projecting from a face of each wall towards the other wall of the pair for securing a corner of a plate between the tops of the ribs.
2. A connector according to claim 1 in which the pairs of walls are perpendicular to each other.
3. A connector according to claim 1 or claim 2 in which the high and low ribs alternate on the walls.
4. A connector according to any preceding claim in which the walls have rounded outer edges.
5. A connector for holding the corners of plates as herein described with reference to the drawings.

4. A connector according to any preceding claim in which the walls have rounded outer edges.
5. A connector for holding the corners of plates as herein described with reference to the drawings.
