Abstract

202,586. Joseph, E. L. Feb. 2, 1923. Small chambers; trays.-In apparatus for withering tea or the like under the action of a reduced pressure and if desired, heat, in an airtight chamber a, Fig. 1, having superposed trays for supporting the leaves, the trays, Fig. 3, are formed with porous bottoms and a balance is provided for controlling the withering of the tea. The balance is adapted to receive in one pan a predetermined weight of the green leaves, and in the other a weight equal to that of the leaves when sufficiently withered, the arm o, Fig. 4, of the balance being adapted to actuate an electric bell s, or to bring about the stoppage of the airpump when the withering is completed. The chamber is provided with an air inlet valve h and is connected with the pump through a condensing chamber g. The airtight chamber may be cylindrical in shape the end of the cylinder constituting the door. In this construction, the trays may be stacked on wheeled trucks adapted to be moved in and out of the chamber.
