Abstract

Flues.-To allow for expansion, the walls of a flue of angular cross-section are formed with relatively deep corrugations spaced apart at infrequent intervals, the corrugations extending over the corners of the flue, and the corner portions of the corrugations being formed of elements separate from the remainder. The flue shown in Fig. 2 is composed of sections 4, each comprising plates 6 connected at the corners by angle-irons 5, by rivets, bolts or the like, or by welding. The plates 6, which are relatively thick are formed with deep corrugations 8 at infrequent intervals, preferably by means of dies, the angle-irons 5 terminating adjacent the corrugations. The corners of the corrugations are formed of inset sections 11 welded, brazed, or otherwise connected to the ends. As shown in Figs. 6 and 8 the inset sections 13 may be riveted or bolted to the ends of the corrugations and may have corner extensions 15 corresponding to the angle-irons 5. The joints between the plates 6 may be covered by plates 9.
