Abstract
In an electronic control system for a reversible tape recording and/or playback apparatus, a detector 1 produces a logic 0 or 1 output according to whether the tape is stationary or moving and is connected to a logic block 2 giving a 1 or 0 output according to whether the tape stopped while before it was moving or stopped while before it was stationary. At each 1 to 0 transition of the block 2 output, a monostable 3 produces an output pulse which momentarily de-energises a relay R1 to effect automatic reversal of the tape drive direction. In a first state of a function programmer 7, switches 4 and 5 are open and the tape is continuously reversed at each end. With programmer 7 in a second state, switch 4 is closed, 5 open and 6 at I so that at the first tape end, relay R1 reverses the tape direction, whereas at the second tape end relay R1 reverses the tape direction and, due to divide-by-two circuit 8, relay R2 ejects the tape cassette and transistor 24 turns off motor 23. In a third state of programmer 7 the cassette is ejected and motor 23 turned off at each end of the tape. A tape head position- sensing switch S4 (Fig 3) prevents cassette ejection before the head has been extracted therefrom. Detector 1 may be of capacitive type (as in application no. 7907419). <IMAGE>
