Abstract

In a device for introducing additional air or exhaust gas into an air-fuel mixture flowing through an intake passage to combustion chambers of an internal combustion engine, means is provided for maintaining the pressure of the additional air or exhaust gas introduced into the intake passage from the periphery thereof at a level more than twice the internal pressure in the intake passage so as to maintain a sonic flow condition. The means may be an air pump 9 or scoop 11 or a direct line 13 from the exhaust system. Exhaust gas and air may be added simultaneously. <IMAGE>
