Abstract

Compression distance which is the reduction in circumference which occurs from the moment when the weld edges make contact to the moment when the outer and inner burrs of the weld seam are pressed out in a cross-sectional plane, is measured using markings on the tube whose distance apart is measured before and after welding. The calculated compression distance is compared with a nominal value and, if necessary, a correcting signal applied to adjust welding rollers accordingly.
