Abstract

A timing system for a lamp 4 or other electrical equipment has a control circuit connected in series between the lamp and an electrical power supply 5 and 6. The system has a switching circuit 1 including an SCR 14 that is switched on to illuminate the lamp when ambient light falls below a predetermined level, and a timing circuit 2 that includes a synchronous motor 30 having two sets of windings 32 and 33 which provide first and second timers respectively. The motor 30 is driven by energisation of either one of windings 32 or 33 and controls via cams or levers the switching of a two-way switch 40. In operation, when ambient light falls to a predetermined level, the lamp 4 is illuminated and motor winding 32 is energized. After a first predetermined interval the motor driven cam causes the lamp to be switched OFF and changes over switch 40 to cause energization of winding 33 instead of 32 and the motor continues to rotate. After a second predetermined interval has elapsed the motor driven cam is returned to its original setting, switch 40 being returned to contact 41 and rotation of the motor is stopped until the ambient light level falls again.
