Abstract

A method for the manufacture of knives of sheet steel, comprising the cold stamping and cutting out of mirror-image identical parts, each having a plane portion (3, 4;) intended to form half a blade in the longitudinal direction and a shell-like portion (5, 6;) intended to form half a handle, and the subsequent face-to-face joining of said parts and the connection together thereof by welding to form together a composite knife wherein the blade and handle are formed in two opposing halves, the thickness of said blade being substantially equal to twice the thickness of the starting sheet steel, whilst the handle is hollow. The plane portion (3, 4) and the shell-like portion (5, 6) taking part in the formation of the knife may be in the form of an integral unit and are obtained simultaneously by stamping and cutting out. Alternatively the plane portion associated with the blade and the shell-like portion associated with the handle taking part in the formation of the knife are obtained as independent parts and fixed together by welding. <IMAGE>
