Abstract

An improved pneumatic tire 1 has a reinforcing structure 8 disposed between the tread portion 3 and carcass structure 2 of the tire. The reinforcing structure 8 comprises at least one reinforcing belt 10 having its lateral edges folded back upon itself, the folded edge portions 11 and 12 extending into the shoulder regions 4 and 5 respectively of the tire. The reinforcing structure further comprises at least one reinforcing cut (i.e. non folded) belt 16 having its lateral edges 17 and 18 extend beyond the folded edge portions 11 and 12 of the folded reinforcing 10 layer. Each of the lateral edges 17 and 18 of the second reinforcing belt has a gum strip 19 placed along the entire circumferential length thereof (Figure 1). The belt 16 may be radially outwardly of belt 10, and the portions 11 and 12 may be folded radially inwardly rather than radially outwardly (as shown). <IMAGE>
