Abstract

A method and apparatus for feeding bar stock 1b in unbroken form from a bulk supply, in which the stock is heated as it is passed along a first feed path from which it emerges in a feed direction and is passed along a second feed path inclined to that first direction to a delivery station, the stock being free to assume an arcuate shape in the region between the feed paths variable to accommodate variations between the speed of travel of the stock along the two feed paths. Sensors 51,53 actuate control means to vary the speed of feed rolls 11a-e of the first feed path. <IMAGE>
