Abstract
There is provided a pharmaceutical use as antitumour agents of cyanine compounds having the formula A - Q = A' (I) wherein A is a group of the formula: <IMAGE> A' is a group of the formula: <IMAGE> Q is a group of the formula: <IMAGE> wherein Z is hydrogen, halogen, C1-3 alkyl or a group of the formula: <IMAGE> Y, Y' and Y'' in the above group formula being the same or different and being respectively S, O or -C(CH3)2-; X<->1 and X<->2 being the same or different anions; R, R' and R'' being the same or different, C1-18 alkyl groups; R1, R2, R'1, R'2, R''1 and R''2 being the same or different and being respectively hydrogen or C1-16 alkyl, or R1 together with R2, or R'1 together with R'2, or R''1 together with R''2 forming a benzene or naphthalene ring including the respectively adjacent carbon atoms or chains; and R3 and R'3 being the same or different and being respectively hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy or di-C1-4 alkylamino.
