Abstract

An L-shaped insert 1 for connecting hollow plastics frame members 2, 3 is fitted, at its corner, with a corner surround 4 in the form of a loop of plastics material having a shape which matches that of the plastics sections 2, 3 being joined. Those sides of the surround 4 which are visible are each formed as two parallel lengths 41 of plastics material spaced apart by spacers positioned at spaced locations along the side and dimensioned such that they protrude above the surrounding surfaces of the sections 2, 3. When the plastics sections 2, 3 are brought up to the surround 4 to complete the joint, a space 5, 6 is defined between the mitred end surfaces 21, 31 of the sections 2, 3 respectively and between the two parallel lengths forming each visible side of surround 4, and these spaces become filled during the subsequent ultrasonic welding operation. <IMAGE>
